When can we expect safari to be compliant?

Am I the only one having tremendous difficulties browsing the net on safari on the IPad?

It seems like as soon as I encounter anything outside javascript or basic HTML it just pukes.

Ordering things online through a shopping cart is an adventure to say the least.
If the page has Flash on it... forget it (and why is flash not supported again!?)

I know it is safari because I get the sam kinds of issues on my macbook air. The difference being that I can use Firefox on my macbook air so I just turf safari there.

I understand that apple is in the business of making hardware, and that they do not wish to get involved in software wars with 3rd parties. Fine. But hows about allowing the software onto the hardware? Stop trying to fix safari, and make room for the browser experts to do what they do best.

At risk of sounding like a rant (which this is not intended to be) I am finding a tremendous dizziness trying to understand Apple's POV. They claim hardware manufacturer... not a software co. But when it comes to software compatibility and support... they take the exact opposite stance. Am I the only one getting dizzy here?

Don't even get me started with ITunes. Anyone who has spent anytime in Linux with Amarok would be revolting over when Apple is going to get with the times on their software... that they don't officially pursue... but they don't let outside software makers in.... oh darn I'm dizzy again!

Anyways... some foresight and taking their software 100% of the way would solve all this. Or get out of the way and let the experts do what they do best is an even better idea.

Great at hardware... leave the software to the rest of us.

Compliant with what? Flash? Let's please not start that topic up yet again; it's been beaten to death and beyond many times already.

What sites other than Flash-based sites are you having problems with? If you can post examples (again, non-Flash; we already know about the Flash issue) perhaps someone can comment. But I've ordered from a number of sites with shopping carts, such as Amazon, from my iPad with no problems.

So you need to post specific sites before we can offer any comments or advice. Otherwise, your post doesn't really do much good for anyone, lacking as it is any specifics, and really does just come down to what is in essence a rant.

Regards.

Well, I now do about all of my online shopping, at multiple sites and I'm sure all of the major ones, all of my online banking, at two banks, and do all of my other routine browsing on the iPad without any issues at all.

I'm not talking Flash here, of course, but as a long-standing Mac user I'd long since pretty much weaned myself off of reliance on that system in any case.

Your pro forma " ... not a rant ..." disclaimer fell quite a bit short of the mark.

The following is a C&P from the forum "Terms of Use." Does it sound familiar?

+Post constructive comments and questions. Unless otherwise noted, your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer. Constructive feedback about product features is welcome as well. *If your Submission contains the phrase “I’m sorry for the rant, but…” you are likely in violation of this policy.*+

Hi gang. Thanks for your replies.

To clarify:

1) I know that I can just install flash on safari on my Macbook Air. I did it. So the question again begs, why on safari on my macbook air... but not safari on my ipad? (notice that I am still not standing on a milk carton with a blowhorn screaming "apple ***!")

It may have been beaten to death in here before, and I apologize if I re-open old wounds. But from the tentative response to the flash issue... you only validate the fact that users want it... apple provides it on other platforms of theirs, so perhaps it should be visited on the Ipad. If everyone runs from the topic/issue... how do you expect to get the consensus across to the manufacturer. Rather... we should put our hands together as a collective unit all asking very nicely if it can be included in the next update. No need to be adversarial or argumentative. The post is in the form of a bewildered question/request... not a demand or a verbal beat down.

2) If I spend as much money as I do on the iphone, ipad(s), macbook air, mac mini server(s), ipod(s), back up system(s), wireless router(s), not to mention the numerous software packages and apps, I am allowed to be disappointed when I still can't find the solution to a brain-dead basic function coupled with chase your tail philosophical answers as to why not.

When I am disappointed, it is my nature to see if it can be remedied. In this case... discuss it with my peers on the manufacturers forum... constructively.

Why when I put an address in my ipad calendar "location" field in an appointment, does it not link to a map location?

Why can I not select an address/location from a contact... instead of having to type it in every time?

Thank you for finally allowing us to add invitees, how do I click on those invitees to pull up their contact information? (in case I am running late perhaps I would like to be considerate and give them a call to let them know.)

Why can I not shuffle my playlists in ITunes? I don't mean the entire library, I mean a playlist. (Just like Amarok on Linux)

Why do I need to manually add music in Itunes, instead of having the itunes library reflect what is in my registered music folder(s)? (just like Amarok in Linux).

Why can I only shuffle my entire music library on my Ipod (Nano 5th generation)... as opposed to shuffling and playing by genre, or playlist, or album, or artist, etc.? What if I want to listen to modern rock across a multitude of albums, artists, and songs randomly without having my jazz collection included? So because of this basic function missing... I am pretty much pegged into having a different ipod for each genre. 20 some iterations of the ipod and we still have the most basic shuffle/random feature in the market. Linux/Amarok offer some very creative work arounds on the desktop interface, but of course they do not have "formal access" to use the ipod natively because Apple wants to peg us into Itunes only. Lots of solutions found, lots of workarounds available, apple doesn't want to play ball with any of them. I'm allowed to be disappointed...

Why can't I link a contact to a company? I can enter a company in their information... but I cannot search for a contact based on that company. I can make the contact a company with a contact person in that company card... but what if I have multiple contacts in that company... I have to open and close all of the multiple company entries hoping I get lucky and open the correct "person".

Why do we only have a single level group heirarchy in contacts? I could solve the above by making a company a "Group" but I cannot move the groups up or down the folder heirarchy... so I can only bloat my top level... again not very efficient. I'm allowed to be bewildered and disappointed...

Why can I not plug a regular printer into an apple air port and print to it through my ipad? Instead I have to buy a "special" printer to print from my ipad.....

Why is it so convoluted and difficult to move files to and from the ipad? It would be a powerhouse business device if it could. Yeah sure you can manage to get files on there... but what a convoluted process that is completely unecessary.

Why can we do all kinds of things wirelessly on the ipad like control TVs and browse the internet, but we still can't transfer a simple file to it wirelessly? By file I mean basic stuff like photos, or music, or documents.

Any reason why there is no USB port on the ipad?

Camera is great... transferring those photos is going to be convoluted... but it takes photos! Please excuse my sarcasm I can't help myself sometimes.

Are these questions in a format that is acceptable? Are they specific enough? Can someone kindly help me with any of them?

Thanks for your constructive feedback.

Some of your suggestions are valid, and I think the best thing to do is go to the feedback page and suggest them to Apple directly. These forums are for technical support.

That being said though, it's really not a question of why the iPad doesn't do these things. It just doesn't. My Audi doesn't have the cupholders that my Ford does, and it doesn't drive like a Ferrari, and it gets worse gas mileage than a Prius. So, I don't complain to Audi. If you don't like the iPad and what you view as pitfalls, then by all means you shouldn't buy one, and you should purchase the tablet out there that does all that you want.

But back to the top .... use the feedback page. We aren't Apple and aren't necessarily privy to why certain decisions were made.

When can we expect safari to be compliant?
