Significant light leakage, few light botches on sides/corners - defective?
Actually I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but thought I'd share my experience here. Very disappointing, but certainly completely usable until I can exchange.
Hoping it's one of those strange manufacturing things where it "needs to settle," but I doubt it.
Note that I have an iPad 1 also, and it definitely doesn't have this problem.
I purchased ALL within a 2 weeks of launch. The one I kept was bought on the 22nd of March. The first one I sold was bought on launch (64 GB Black wifi) I love it but had a friend beg and plead with me to sell it to him, that one had NO issues either.......
Probably several comments have been removed because they were not technically related, like this one of yours. You are not talking to Apple here, we are just users like you. If you want to contact Apple, use the feedback link posted earlier or call Apple or take your iPad to an Apple Store. If you want suggestions or help, then post your question, but just saying "Apple help me" won't get anything done, I am not Apple and others who post here are not Apple. This advice goes for iphon4 and Dawgfanclark also.
Have taken all the needed steps to have "Apple" help.
-have case id (for replacement w/the same light bleed issue)
-have had genius apts
-on my second ipad 2
-waiting for the 3rd to see if its any better
-put direct customer feedback to "Apple" on feedback link
Since I figure "users" are not the ones removing posts from this thread I stated what I stated above.
To all "users"
Any luck with replacements via Apple Store or over the phone customer support through apple care?
Ive gone through 3 iPad 2's now, all had back light bleed. This one I have now is the worst. Rather than waste time, money and fuel going back to the Belfast Apple store I foned AppleCare. I was advised if I swapped out for another iPad 2 over the fone, I would receive a refurbished iPad. I wouldnt receive a brand new unboxed iPad 2. If I wanted brand new and unboxed, Id have to take it back to the Belfast store. Have I been mis informed or is there any truth to this?
You would highly likely receive a refurbished one. Firstly there isnt any ipads around and secondly i know of people that have gone through 4 or 5 ipads. I returned my one five days later after launch.
I would just return it and wait some time before buying one. Save the hassle.
Id forgot to mention, Id only bought it yesterday. I just dont understand why I would get a refurb if I swapped out over the fone for an iPad 2 only purchased yesterday lol.
You could try to see if they would give you a new one and a free smart cover for going through the 3 exchanges. But if they dont i would get my money back and wait a bit if you can.
I was lucky enough to get an iPad 2 on launch day, March 11th. While setting things up I noticed the light leakage. Immediately called Apple, got a bit of the run around but eventually was told to take it back to the Apple store near me. Called the Apple store that was closest to me (2 hrs. away) let them know what problems I was having with the iPad 2. They said they would call when a replacement came in. On March 17th I get the call, hop in the car and make the 2 hr. trek. Get to the store let them know what was going on, they give me a new iPad 2. Big smile on my face. When I get home start the setup and guess what.. not only did this one have light leakage but it was worse than the first one! You got to be kidding me!! I decided to wait a few weeks before replacing my replacement. Once again call Apple store let them know what is going on. Like the first time they say they'll call when replacement comes in. I get the call and head to the store on 4/9/11. Exchange iPad 2 with no fuss. Now before heading back home I open up the replacement to the replacement... Oh my you have got to be kidding me, am I on some kind of hidden camera show. You guessed it, there it was in left hand corner and sides, all kinds of light leakage. No other iPad 2 available for exchange. Head home dejected. Long story short, if you have light leakage my suggestion like others on this board would be to just wait until Apple has fixed the problem. If you haven't got an iPad 2 yet and your not the gambling kind, just wait until the problem is fixed.
So far I am 0-3! Maybe 4th time will be the charm! I must say even though this has been very frustrating, Apples customer service has been excellent!!
