Mar 15, 2011 6:53 PM in response to Chriscicby Yoshi80,Well scratch my last post. After using the new iPad all night light is clearly bleeding through now. Odd how it wasn't this bad earlier. Think I'll just get a refund for now as I am accepting the fact I just have awful luck with electronics.
Lesson learned; nothing is worth waiting in line 8 hours for. -
Mar 15, 2011 7:02 PM in response to GENE GOLDENSTEINby dc202,I don't remember widespread reports of the Gen1 having this problem, so if someone wants to make a statement like that, it would be helpful if they backed it up.
I have an incoming new Gen1 so I will be happy to report if it has this issue. -
Mar 16, 2011 3:42 AM in response to Chriscicby tattooedchick,I showed my iPad 2 to my father and he says he believes the yellow/white tint(light leakage) is coming from the magnets that were placed inside the iPad 2. Don't know if this is a possible answer or not since about 60% of the people that own an iPad 2 are reporting the light leakage issue. -
Mar 16, 2011 3:53 AM in response to Chriscicby Jersey-Mike,No matter if your iPad is engraved if there's. a light leak they will fix the problem. Engraved or Not. Maybe they are addressing the problem & that's why shipping on the Apple Store is 4-5 Weeks ? (Who Knows)
I hope they fix this issue soon because I love the new iPad2 over my original iPad.
.
After this is said and done if anyone is holding out for a cheaper iPad2 there's gonna be a BIG supply of Refurbished ones to purchase! -
Mar 16, 2011 3:52 AM in response to Chriscicby themovieguru,My order is on its way to me, and the more I read on this forum and others, the more petrified I become about getting a defective iPad 2 with bleeding light. I've read a lot about people returning them for ones that have the same problem, so after nervously reading a lot of posts on this topic I have two theories:
1) There are bad batches of iPad 2s which contain hundreds, maybe thousands of defective units per shipment. So when someone exchanges one in the same area/same store where they got the first one, it will be from the same batch, hense same defect.
2) Apple rushed production, had no quality control and didn't notice a serious defect in their backlight/screen components and/or method of production. This means the majority of iPad 2s out there are defective.
Obviously I don't know the numbers so there's no way to know for sure how frequently this shows up, but I'm still very worried that my $600 iPad 2 will be a dud with bleeding light and dead pixels.
Does anyone have any idea about percentage of affected units? -
Mar 16, 2011 3:55 AM in response to themovieguruby Jersey-Mike,There no way of knowing the exact or close estimate on how many people are having problems with the iPad2 -
Mar 16, 2011 4:21 AM in response to themovieguruby Merged Content 1,Movieguru.."petrified" is a strong word...if it's not right Apple will fix it, their customer service has always been stellar in my experiences...sometimes they are slow to react but they eventually do...that's why I personally buy their products...
I'm petrified that something more awful than already has happened will befall the poor people of Japan, my iPad 2 issues ...not really importNt at all in the scheme of things...just my perspective. -
Mar 16, 2011 5:27 AM in response to Merged Content 1by petedgr8,Movieguru: I picked mine up in Texas, and got another defective unit in Washington, DC. I'm going to take a guess and say I didn't just get unlucky. -
Mar 16, 2011 6:24 AM in response to Chriscicby themovieguru,Based on this information it seems like there aren't actually any non-defective iPad 2s out there! Obviously that's not true, but the ratio doesn't look good you've got to admit. Do you think Apple will announce something about it, or will they just ignore it like Microsoft and the xBox 360s red ring of death controversy? -
Mar 16, 2011 8:41 AM in response to Chriscicby smack57,I'm on my second first had 1 dead pixel and light bleeding this also has a little bleeding. I still have my iPad one as well so I'll do a comparison looking for bleeding on that and post back. -
Mar 16, 2011 11:15 AM in response to smack57by vanleerb,Just sharing my story - I don't often do this, but Apple needs to hear from us all!
So I stood in line for a long time on Friday, got my new iPad, raced home to get started and of course the first thing I notice is this defect in the bottom right part of the display.
Next day I checked to make sure it was still there, called the store and of course, the sales person said they were sold out and to call next week.
I called on Tuesday and the sales person was helpful, set me up with an appointment and last night I went to get my new replacement. The new one has the same problem. They even opened while I was there.
While the guys at the apple store were friendly and helpful, what I find frustrating is the lack of concern that they are replacing defective iPads with more defective iPads. How many times will I have to replace the darn thing?
I would say this is a huge blow to Apple's reputation on quality. I'm just going to keep taking it back until I get one that I'm satisfied with. Apple is lucky I don't ask for a refund. I hope all of these units are refurbishable...What a waste of resources, if not. -
Mar 16, 2011 11:21 AM in response to vanleerbby j0hnd0e,same experience here, although the second unit i got wasnt as pronounced so i may hold on to it for alittle while until this issue hopefully gets addressed by apple. -
Mar 16, 2011 11:26 AM in response to Chriscicby wasabigrinch,I'm having the same issue as well. I bought the 64GB wifi model, saw the leakage, took it back, and ended up with one that is significantly worse .
The people in the Apple store were very helpful, and the technician said he would pass on the issue to their engineering team. Apple must already know about this... I'm just waiting to hear how they plan to fix it.
I own several apple computers and am generally very happy with my experience so far. This was kind of a bummer tho! -
