Mar 20, 2011 11:24 AM in response to Merged Content 1by Szech68,The picture makes it more pronounced than in regular use. I'm definitely keeping the new one. I know that different posts make it sound like you should not go to the Apple store; however, in my experience, it was worth the trip. -
Mar 20, 2011 11:59 AM in response to Szech68by 3gexplorer,Apple engineers, techs, PR,...we know you are reading this thread. I work in this industry and these forums were created for a reason. Why aren't you responding to this thread? Maybe waiting for legal to sign off on a standard response? =) -
Mar 20, 2011 12:02 PM in response to Chriscicby AppleBits,Although I bought both of mine at BestBuy, and can return/exchange them, I did just call AppleCare about this. One, I wanted it on record with them that mine have this issue. Two, I wanted to see what my options with them were. They gave me a case number for each iPad. My current options are to send these back to Apple, they will "repair" and send back to me. (That COULD mean just sending me 2 "new" ones..not necessarily these 2 fixed.) Or I can take them to the Apple Store & get an immediate replacement. Either way with that, I feel I'm risking the same problem as everyone else...getting one as bad or worse than what I have. I can make my choice with Apple up to 1 year. I have 45 days with BB. So I have some time to wait to see what Apple does to fix this. Hope this helps you all decide. I'm SURE the dude in who bought my iP1 is thrilled with his purchase. He got a smokin' deal on a perfect unit! -
Mar 20, 2011 1:02 PM in response to Chriscicby Jersey-Mike,Got my replacement iPad2 Today. Much better then my original with the light leak.
The New one has a very very small (I mean small) light leak from the side really not noticeable at all.
I am now happy with my iPad2.
One Problem They didnt give me a new receipt with the new serial # on it.
will this be a problem for any issues in the future ?? -

I would certainly go back and ask for a receipt now. Waiting will only make it worse if you need help. -
Mar 20, 2011 1:22 PM in response to gwforemanby sahilio,I am on the phone with a senior ipad advisor - very kind.
She told me that YES they are aware and it is an issue but they have been given an official announcement internally that it isn't on all devices.
They did say as the customer you have the right to demand for htem to open all items until you get one without lightbleed.
Very very happy with Apple customer service! Amazing. -
Mar 20, 2011 2:13 PM in response to Szech68by beno68,That second one looks awesome! I wish mine looked like that. Was that on 100 pct brightness? -
Mar 20, 2011 2:44 PM in response to sahilioby iamjona,Do you have her name? I'd like to have her help me with my local Apple store. My local apple store in the one at The Grove in Los Angeles California. they say that they can't open every iPad 2 for me. They can open only 1 for me and if it's still no good. I have to open a new case with them again and have to wait again. That's what they said. -
Mar 20, 2011 5:20 PM in response to beno68by Szech68,I'm definitely pleased. Yes, it was taken at 100% brightness. -
Mar 20, 2011 7:50 PM in response to Szech68by LogMeCode3,My wife and I each bought one last Friday at BB (release day). Both white 64gb wifi only models. Both have the problem, but I don't think it's a "light leak" at all. As others have said, I really think it's excess pressure on the screen in those spots around the edge causing the screen's color to distort in those areas. If you push on the screen (obviously not so hard as to break something), it'll produce the same exact effect. As well, if you grab the iPad with both hands along the short sides and twist very gently (like you were wringing a towel) in either direction, the existing discolored areas either get worse or disappear, depending on the direction you're twisting. Regardless ... what to do now? Do we take them back and get a refund and then wait? Or, do I we keep them and wait for Apple to fix the problem? I just hope Apple doesn't choose to remain silent on this. I also hope that the "fix" is not to try to pacify people with a free smart cover or something. I guess we'll see. How long do I have with BB to return the iPads as defective?

Mar 20, 2011 8:01 PM in response to LogMeCode3by AppleBits,I also got mine at BB. I have the Silver Premier status, so that allows a window of 45 days for return/exchange, as opposed to the 14 days. I read that on their website today before I called Apple to at least start a case for both of mine. Apple will "fix" up to 1 year (2 with extended AppleCare if you got that). I at least wanted it documented on Apple's end of the defects.
I do like your breakdown of the discoloring. Makes sense. But besides the fact I already bought 2 smart-covers that I really don't like that much, I don't want some rubber-baby-bumper fix-it offer. I want a unit that works as perfectly as an $800 Apple iPad SHOULD work, zero issues. Or just give me my hard earned money back, I guess. I'm holding onto the two faulties I have for now, wait it out a month or so, then see what's going on with all of this before I decide to return them to BB, or go thru Apple. (Keep in mind, Apple told me they would try to "fix" the one I send back....) Whatever that means, read into what you will. My thought is they would just send out a new one. BUT...I'm not ready to risk getting a new one that is worse. I'll just wait a while. Good luck. -
Mar 20, 2011 8:16 PM in response to 3gexplorerby MLadd,These forums are managed by users, not Apple Computer. That someone works in an industry does not mean they have an intimate knowledge of the inner workings and policies of every company and entity in that industry. -
Mar 20, 2011 9:30 PM in response to MLaddby rat4spd,Steve replied to my email regarding the issue. I get the sense he was irritated with me. -

Mar 20, 2011 9:59 PM in response to sahilioby rat4spd,Whether you or anyone else thinks so is irrelevant. I will not post the email. I don't need validation from the fanboys. It's private, and offers no information on the bleed issue. It only addresses what Apple will do regarding my unsatisfactory response from Support.
