Q: Significant light leakage, few light botches on sides/corners  - defective?

Actually I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but thought I'd share my experience here. Very disappointing, but certainly completely usable until I can exchange.

Hoping it's one of those strange manufacturing things where it "needs to settle," but I doubt it.

Note that I have an iPad 1 also, and it definitely doesn't have this problem.

I dunno if thats a bad light bleed or not... Would you replace it if this was your screen?

    (Its a launch day model).

Phoned AppleCare helpline, They recommended I take it in and they will just swap it.

Hopfully I get a nice fixed one.

That's comparable to the light bleed on mine. Took it to the Genius Bar this morning and they are going to replace it, but didn't have one in stock to do it there and then.

Interestingly, they told me they couldn't exchange it a second time, if the next one is as bad or worse and would only give me a refund in that case.

Was that the Bullring Apple store , I notice your from Midlands (Like me).

If so , what model was it that they did not have.

When I was on the help-line I was assured it was just a first batch issue. So you should be fine.

Same thing happened to me yesterday.  After reading the articles about the LG screen issues, I made an appointment.  Mine wasn't too bad, but still somewhate distracting watching movies.

The Genius rep said my issue was "very minor" but agreed to replace.  However they would only do this once.  If the replacement was not good enough I just had to return for refund.

We tried to verify in store if the new one was better, but really impossible 'cause no dark room there.

Anyway, took it home and it is "much" better, though still not quite as good as iPad 1.  Nevertheless, I am satisfied and frankly I hate the waste involved in changing out all that hardware for just this one relatively minor issue.

    Happy now.  Great product overall...

Yes, it was the BullRing store. They didn't have the 32GB WiFi in Black in stock today - don't know about any other models.

It was an hour's travel for me too. They're ordering one in for me so I'll have to go back again to collect it in 3 - 5 working days...

I'm not sure they'll tell you stock levels over the phone though. Policy seems to be you have to go in person to find out.

All ipad 2 have defective screen.I have changed four ipad 2 and all have the same defect. Finally Ihave returned the money. Apple continues to make ipad 2 defective and has not withdrawn from the market. This is very serious and reportable.

The most serious is that continues to manufacture the product with the same defect uncorrected.

Apple has shown that it is prepared to deal with large production demands, and instead sells a defective product without correction for non-stop production.

It's one of the reasons Apple has been struggling to keep up with orders. LG made the defective screens, and were forced to stop shipping parts. There are about 4 suppliers of screen parts.

The problem has apparently been sorted now and Apple can step up production again. I don't envy you guys, Apple stores are in short supply and it's a major effort to get sorted a problem that should have been fixed way back when...

Unfortunately, these brown-box replacement iPads have dimmer, dingy yellow/green tinted display (typical with Samsung) instead of the vibrant and brighter displays (typical with LG).

    photo.JPG

LG displays deliver brighter images and sharper, but affected by light leaks.
The Samsung displays have no light leaks but delivers images duller and yellowish

Let LG will promptly correct the problem to find the perfect IPAD

Wow I hope that picture is fake.

How can they get away with that kind of noticeable difference.
