Mar 14, 2011 4:40 PM in response to vidguy7by TSloper,I did this exact side by side comparison last night with some Netflix movies. The iPad 1 blew away the iPad 2. On the iPad 1 the black bars were not visible. On the iPad 2 the black bars were clearly visible.
I returned the iPad 2 today for the light leakage spots. I couldn't justify $800 for the iPad 2 plus cover when it was providing an inferior user experience compared to the iPad 1. I don't expect Apple to acknowledge there is an issue publicly but I do hope they make a change to the manufacturing process to alleviate this issue in the near future. It definitely looks like there is too much pressure being put on the edges/corners of the LCD panel. A light press near any of the affected areas made them worse.
What is concerning is that these units made it out the door. What ever happened to QC? -

Mar 14, 2011 10:42 PM in response to KeynoteUSby shameer_mulji,Who else are they going to buy displays from? There are only approximately five companies that have the capacity to manufacture displays at such a large scale: LG, Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, Hitachi - and they supply practically every company such as Apple, Dell, Viewsonic, etc.
Short of Apple opening their own plants and manufacturing their own display I don't see who else Apple can buy displays from. They make approximately 175 million iDevices per year on top of the 15 to 16 million macs per year.
Do you know any other company that can supply close to 200 million display panels per year to one company, let alone other companies that need displays?
I'm not trying to downplay everyone's display issues as they are legitimate issues which Apple has to deal with but there's only a handful of companies that can supply Apple. -

Mar 15, 2011 2:20 AM in response to striboiby David M Brewer,You friend won't save much in the US... Customs/VAT will eat up the savings on the iPad. -

Mar 15, 2011 6:23 AM in response to Chriscicby GENE GOLDENSTEIN,1-Don't ask here should I return it?- Your an adult you make
the choice which is best for you.
2-New products have problems. If you you cannot deal with that don't
buy a new product.
3-No crystal balls here.
4-Grow up and think for yourself.
Sheesh....................... -
Mar 15, 2011 6:32 AM in response to GENE GOLDENSTEINby cpearless,I'm sorry, but 'New products have problems' is no excuse. That's why products are tested. -
Mar 15, 2011 6:32 AM in response to Pettmanby Dankss, well i posted a pic of my messed up product a few pages back. i ended up going to the apple store and showing the "genius" the problem. i also printed out this who forum post and gave that to him in anger. he took it back and gave me a new one. i had him open that one in the store and take it in a dark room to test. he told me it has the same issue as the first one. i then told him i dont want either one and will take a full refund. he had to issue me a check directly from apple which i will get in the mail. not sure why but im atleast im getting my money back. im not willing to take a product that seemed rush for the price i paid. they even took back the smart cover.... nice service at the store but i wish their production was equally as satisfying.
I own a g5 that has been running great since 2007.. ever since apple started making the iphone and ipads their production has gone downhill in my opinion.
