Q: Significant light leakage, few light botches on sides/corners  - defective?

That's one week newer than mine! Did your serial number also start with DL, supposedly indicating it was manufactured in China.

The serial number for the IPAD2 WI-FI 3 G 64 GB Black AT&T that I returned and got a refund was DN6FNLHTDFJ3.

Well, that's interesting. I am by no means an expert on deciphering Apple serial numbers, but according to a poster, the fact that mine began with DL meant it was manufactured in China. I don't know where DN was manufactured.

Perhaps some other folks can shed some light on the serial number as to where it was manufactured. I am going to wait now, since I do not get paid from Apple to be their Field Quality Control Staffer. I do know that since March I have tied time, floated close to $4,375.00 in money through credit cards to get one that is not defective. Not a good customer buying experience. That is one of the moments I enjoyed about Apple Products. They are normally built well, and they work! My family has 6 Macbook Pro's, a 27 inch IMAC, 3 Iphones, Several Ipods...Never had a problem with them out of the box like this. I recognize that from time to time things can happen in making stuff. However, that is the fundamental reason I buy Apple premium products. I am sure they will turn this around. I just miss the positive buying experience and excitement of their new product releases! This has been kinda of a drag.

I would be interested in the mystery of the LCD and the serial number clues as to where these are manufactured.

Your experience with Apple products has been much better than mine!

Except for my iMac and iPhone, and currently my new iPad 2, I have never bought an Apple product that didn't have problems.

My PowerBooks and MBPs all had screen and other problems, and had to be exchanged from the start. Same with older notebooks like my Duo and iBook. My MBP also had the trackpad stop working 3 times and the motherboard replaced twice. My iPod - I don't even want to go there! It had the "tilted screen" problem and I had to end up calling the consumer affairs agency here in Japan to finally get a refund, apology and gift certificate. I never want to touch an iPod again. And I had to get 3 different iPad 1s before I got one without broken pixels.

Apple is usually good about eventually fixing problems. But I always have to prepare myself mentally before buying an Apple product, because in my experience they almost always has some problems which need to be dealt with.

Everything is manufactured in China.

For the first one (32GB Wifi White), the light leaks aren't too bad and my wife was okay with it so I didn't return it. For the 2nd and 3rd ones (both 64GB Black ATT 3G), I purchased them at Wal-Mart

Walmart is extremely aggressive on the prices they pay for merchandise.  I wonder how manufacturers react to that.

I had serious light leakage on my first 3g 64gb that I bought through apple's webstore. The exchnage took three weeks, the new one is almost perfect and better than my ipad 1. When I called for the exchange the guy on the phone confirmed the problem with my serial number, so they know exactly which ones got the problem. After all I am happy and the whole procedure has been handled flawless by Apple.

Over on this forum some people noticed today and yesterday that their new Ipad 2's were showing no leakage.  This was on models with Serial # starting: DLXF.  There was one person that said there was a very tiny amount and another that had some but most were saying things were perfect.

I was wondering what people that received some today or over past 2 days with DLXF had here?  Are we starting to see better new ones in the most recent shipment?

The week of manufacture could also matter. Mine is DLXFM and I can't see any light-bleed problems.

I'm pretty sure those are both iPad 1st gen's but omg...look at the screen on the left...beautiful...

Pretty shocking though that ipad screen only covers 40% of NTSC gamut...not very fitting for a product that costs 500$+

I know this has nothing to do with the light leak issue but wouldn't it be cool if we could mod our ipad 2's ourselves and put in a better screen like the one from nanosys?

My latest iPad 2 is out for delivery now. It shipped from China on Saturday night / Sunday morning, so it should be 'new stock' and will hopefully not have the issue. Once I get home from work, I'll check it out and post my results here...fingers crossed!

To the people who just bought or got there Ipad 2 in the last 7 days without screen bleed does it come with version 4.3.3 software or 4.3.2 ? .

Also people with screen bleed is yours version 4.3.2 or 4.3.3?

LG said this was fixed when 4.3.3 was just relested and maybe we can go off the firmwre version as anything with 4.3.3 would of been built in the last 14 days i would of thought.

I have herd people are now getting ipad 2s with 4.3.3 in them

oh i have had 2 ipad 2s with DXLF

1st Ipad DXLF = screen bleed
2nd Ipad DXLF = No screen bleed at all but had 50% yellow tint on the screen and the other 50% half of the screen was whiter and put me right of when reading or surfing so went back.
