Heads up to anyone interested in the new HDMI adapter. I bought it, excited to use it to easily show apps/games on my TV, and I just discovered that with both of my new iPad 2 units, the HDMI adapter outputs an empty black screen to the TV. Fail.
Anyone experiencing this?
I imagine that a lot of TVs simply aren't going to like to see 1024x768 over HDMI connections. Wish Apple had considered that.
In your settings go to restrictions if it’s off turn it on it will emblazoned signal to be sent to tv through hdmi cable for older I pads using the video out cable it works on older model TVs not on newer ones if you have a vga input on your tv that cable should work still
Have you change your TV sources to HDMI port where you connect the Ipad2?
(Press TV source or INPUT button on TV remote control to change)
Also, is there any device that connects to the TV through HDMI work?
Apps can display up to 1706x1280p 4:3, for example Safari. Black bars on the right and left side of bowser image if the HD Tv is set to 16:9. Videos can display up to 1280x1080p 16:9. I tried it last night with the HDMI adapter and it worked just fine on a 1080 HD Tv. I only tried Safari and the YouTube app.
As to why the Op can't make it work I have no idea other than... The HDMI adapter, HDMI cable, iPad or the Tv could be faulty. The Op should try another Tv/monitor, HDMI cable or another device on the Tv. (DVD player connected with the HDMI cable.) The problem could be one of many things.
To answer the above, yes I checked the settings (no new options there, just NTSC/PAL and widescreen)
The tv works fine with everything else: Mac Mini, PS3, 360, etc. If it's supposed to be outputting 1080p than I have no idea what the problem is unless the adapter is defective.
I'm having a similar problem. So, here are the details.
I have an iPad 2 with an Apple Digital AD Adapter. I am trying to connect it to a Samsung P2770HD television.
The video switches between a noise screen (1 sec), a blank screen (1 sec), a static picture of the iPad screen (1 sec), a blank screen (1 sec), and then back to the noise screen (1-2 sec). The television is reproducing the image as if the signal is being continuously interrupted (i.e., cutting out and cutting in again). Sometimes the whole process stops and my TV presents a "No Signal" screen as if the HMDI cord is not attached to an input.
I've alternated between iPad2 video settings in various combinations. The widescreen on, tv signal NTSC, produces the best "static picture", but the image stays on the screen for no more than 1 second so obviously, I can't watch video.
I've alternated between all of the Samsung HMDI video settings in various combinations.
I've restarted both machines. I've alternated between trying to get it work from the main ipad2 screens as well as within apps (e.g., YouTube or Netflix). Nothing appears to work.
I've tried two different HMDI cables, both of which work with other inputs.
Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome. Many thanks, DJ
New information. So, when you take the adapter out and run a video app (let's say a movie on Netflix), everything works fine, we're watching the movie all is well in the world. We insert the digital AV adapter and the movie freezes and the tv screen (to which the ipad2 is now connected) goes back to switching between a noise screen (1 sec), a blank screen (1 sec), a static picture of the iPad screen (1 sec), a blank screen (1 sec), and then back to the noise screen (1-2 sec). And, the Netflix movie freezes on the ipad2 screen. So, I've deduced that it is not the signal being interrupted between the ipad2 and the tv. The mere presence of the digital AV adapter appears to be interrupting the ipad2. I've called in to Apple Express Lane Support. And, we are troubleshooting together, but no resolution yet. I will post again if and when a resolution arises. Cheers, DJ
Mine works BUT it conks out at the slightest motion. Same problem on four separate HDMI cables. So it is definitely a flaw in the adapter.
This ia a problem because I can't use the device for the sole purpose I purchased it for: Keynote Presentations. Just the slightest motion when swiping for the next slide causes a disconnect which can only be solved by turning off the iPad and re-starting.
It aso makes the device useless for gaming on the big screen.
I am having similar symptoms of a intermittent signal from my Ipad 2 using the HDMI adapter. I've tried two different adapters, two TV's and two different HDMI cables, with the same poor results. It seems the connector does not make a firm connection with the Ipad. My Ipad 2 works fine with the component video adapter.
I tried the HDMI adapter with my original Ipad, and it works fine, good video and audio output.
As a result, I will likely return the adapter and just use the component video adapter.
From what I can tell, video output thru the adapter is disabled for the Netflix app. Mirrors fine until I hit the red Netflix screen, then the image on the tv freezes (at the red screen), but iPad keeps working in the app as normal. I can't get the mirroring to work when playing a video stored on the iPad. Shows up on the tv, but iPad displays 'video is playing on tv'. Any ideas?
