Hi,

Our school is testing a number of iPads, and I will be buying a iPad 2 on the 25th March. I would like to test my iPad 1 with the Apple VGA Adapter and my data projector in my classroom. (All Apps)

In the past the Apple VGA adapter did not mirror the apps, however the Apple site now has a link to mirror technology with the VGA Adapter.

I could buy the Apple Digital AV Adaptor (HDMI) but would then need to find a HDMI to VGA convertor to connect to my data projector.

I would love to show my students Garage Band on my projector, but need the correct cables.

Regards
Sean

Overview: http://store.apple.com/au/product/IPADVGAADP?mco=MTc4MzkwOTA

Use the Apple VGA Adapter to mirror whatever’s on your iPad 2 screen — apps, presentations, websites, and more — on your VGA-equipped TV, display, projector or other compatible display in up to 1080p HD.
Watch slideshows and video on the big screen in up to 720p by connecting your iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation) to a television, projector, or other VGA-compatible display.
The Apple VGA Adapter connects to your iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad Dock or Universal Dock via the dock connector and to your projector or display using the VGA adapter.

You didn't actually ask a question ... Assuming you want to know if the iPad 1 now supports mirroring, then the answer is: No. That's a feature of the iPad 2 (possibly limited to the HDMI adapter - haven't seen a definitive answer to that one yet). From what I understand, you can use the HDMI adapter with the iPad 1 but that still won't give you mirroring.

    Hi,

Thanks. Will the Apple VGA cable work on a iPad 2?

I will be buying a iPad 2 soon, and have ordered the VGA adapter.

There seems to be only one VGA adapter in the Apple Store and it's listed as being compatible with both iPad generations. So I guess the answer is "yes".

    Hi,

I upgraded my iPad 1 to OS 4.3 and bought the VGA adapter cable from Apple.
The new mirror feature does not work. I was only able to get YouTube and ABC iView to work, so will have to wait for the iPad 2.

I then connected the VGA Adaptor cable to my iPod, and it said the device was not supported, which came as a surprise.???

    I thought it would work.

These are the devices that the VGA adapter supports:
    iPhone 4
    iPod touch
    4th generation
    iPad
    iPad 2

And yes, the VGA adapter will mirror the iPad 2 display.

    Hi,

It is a pity the VGA adaptor does not mirror with a iPad 1 running OS 4.3

    Cheers

    Hi,

I have tested the VGA, Digital AV and other adapters with my iPhone4 and iPad1.
None of them mirror, and only have 720p so will wait for my iPad2

I know this thread isnt that recent but the answer can be found when you look at the VGA adapter product page mention in an earlier post:

"The Apple VGA Adapter mirrors exactly what you see on iPad 2 so that everyone in the room can enjoy it.

The Apple VGA Adapter supports video out (only) for iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation)."

So there you have it - only video out is supported on the original iPad / iPhone 4 / iPad Touch.
