Remote Images and Safe Sender list

I have remote images blocked. I read in the iPad manual, that blocked images can be loaded manually. I can't figure out how. Also I see a message at the bottom of the email "Alert. Email is incomplete due to blocked images. Add to safe sender list now.". I've added the sender to my contacts with no change. The base email account is a gmail imap accout. The client is the iPad email client. The behavior I'm looking for is to be able to keep images blocked and only load when I choose to on an individual message basis, or for email addresses in my contacts.

I opened a support ticket on this. It's a documentation bug, there is no way to manually load remote images in email. Apple did say they would consider adding this, if there was enough demand for it. It would be nice to be able to load remote images on a individual email basis, just like the Mac email client.

The enough demand response is surprising to say the least. In actuality it's a security risk to always load images. Apple has made the mistake of putting their customer email accounts at risk by doing this. We've seen an exponential rise in Spam due to the iPad confirming an email address by downloading a remote image. If you try to delete an email on the iPad without opening the image (under edit) it still graphically opens all messages to show you what you're deleting. Unfortunately Apple hasn't had the foresight to understand how people might need to use their corporate emails anywhere but on the iPad.

So, Apple, up to iOS 5 now and it still looks like there is no way to disable "automatically download images in emails" AND THEN manually load them for emails you trust. What is going on? This is a MAJOR security problem! I find it incredibly hard to beleive this has been overlooked for so long. In my opinion this is worse than the MacDefender problem earlier this year, and you managed to patch that up quickly enough... So get your act together!

The message I sent from the feedback page:

Hi,

I'm very surprised there is no way to mass delete emails in mail on iPad without loading the email with images.

It is a security issue to load images, plus it lets spammers know my account is good. It seems against the Apple way to give an advantage to spammers at your customer's expense.

Please add the option to load images on an email by email basis when 'load remote images' is off basis by adding a button to load images like there is in mail for Mac.

Another solution to this problem would be to stop loading emails with images when mass deleting. If the email is being deleted it could be assumed I don't want to load the email. It takes up bandwidth and again show the email as a valid email to spammers.
