Q: Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Greetings Community,

I recently purchased the iPad 2 16GB WiFi only device. One thing I noticed, the WiFi will only work for a short while, then completely stop. I have to disable and enable the wireless to get it working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any resolution? iOS version is 4.3.

Thanks.

Saumil.

Has anyone seen this on their iPad?

In my Settings, it detects the network, but there are no 'WiFi bars' at the top and it can't get online.

And just to clarify more on my previous post, everything I run is Apple.  Apple TV, iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone's, etc. and they all connect to my Airport Extreme without any problems.  I've thought that it might be a problem with the router, but I just don't see how when everything BUT the iPad 2 works perfectly.
I can't remember anything that might have caused it (software update or dropping the iPad), I just remember the signal all of a sudden got weaker and just recently it's been dropping it completely.  Argh.

Has anyone tried clicking on the "Branched to new discussion" link at the top?  It says I'm unauthorized for some reason.

"Branched to a new discussion" shows up when the Hosts move posts in preparation for deleting them for violation for the Terms of Use. Once the posts are deleted, you'll see the message that you're not authorized.

I began having the same problem at work yesterday.   The wifi is connected but when I go to Safari it disappears.  Same issue on my iPhone as well, so I believe it might be an Apple problem because no one mentioned changing any settings at the office.  I use a Guest login for my personal iPad, which requires entering a username/password in an Aruba Networks screen upon connecting (first screen that appears in the browser, similar to a hotel.)

The only other thing I can think of is that I sync'd both devices with iTunes on Sunday.  Ever since, they won't connect at work.

I had posted earlier that I was having WiFi issues with my iPad 2. My Wi-Fi configuration at home was that I had multiple SSIDs coming from the same DSL modem/router/wireless access point. One access point was a hidden WEP and the other access point was WPA2/AES. Other devices seemed to work OK with it, but the modem would drop connections while it was under heavy use with other devices. I would need to power cycle the modem frequently.

I restored the modem back to factory defaults, set it back up the way that I wanted but I didn't enable multiple SSIDs. I haven't had an issue connecting to my Wi-Fi access point since I have done this. I suspected that my modem was the cause of the Wi-Fi issues with my iPad 2 since I didn't have problems at work. I don't know if it is the multiple SSIDs that caused the Wi-Fi issues or if my modem was in a wierd configuration that caused my issues with the iPad.

I hope that this helps others that are experiencing Wi-Fi issues with their iPad 2.

I was hoping that iOS 5 might resolve this issue for me but it didn't.

I live in a 3 story townhouse, my WAP is a buffalo wzr-hp-g300nh (set up with dd wrt) connected via LAN to my router, Verizon fios actiontech (forget the model name but it only has b/g, no 802.11n). Both the router and WAP reside on the bottom floor. I almost exclusively use my iPad 2 on the 2nd floor and this is where I've been experiencing severe drop outs. My thinkpad and iPhone 4 did not have any problems with this set up.

I moved the WAP to the 2nd floor and connected via LAN through MOCA using a Motorola NIM-100 and now the iPad doesn't seem to lose its connection at all. I already had the NIM to connect my PS 3 to my network so it wasn't a big deal for me, but nonetheless an accommodation made just for the iPad. My layman's conclusion is that my iPad's wifi reception is very poor compared with most other devices I've used, and it needs a very robust signal to maintain a connection. Surprising and disappointing as it is now even more dependent on its wifi with iCloud and wifi sync, etc.

This helped for me ( I saw it in the forum ): put the automatic brightness OFF, and connection is much better...

Per ios5 mine did keep on dropping , however since the upgrade haven't had any intermittent wifi dropping issues........ Touchwood. It used to happen only at home (I live in a block of flats) where there are 10+ wifi connections showing up near by. I have an old d link dir -310 wireless router working on b/g

This was my solution.  We had changed Internet providers when problem occurred.  I had connected a Linksys WAP54G directly behind the cable company's modem.  I had a wired Linksys router with 4 ports. I connected it behind the cable company modem, I then connected my wireless access point to WAP54G ap, changed security to WPA 2

Blackberry now connects without a problem.  I will have to wait for my son to come home with iPad, but my iPod Touch connected to web with this new arrangement.  If iPad has a problem will post again, but otherwise assume it was resolved. The iPad had been fine before switiching to cable company.

Also my MacBook Pro continued to connect as it always did no matter what configuration or modem/router connection I had in place.

Yay, ios5 appears to have solved my problems.  Had another appt with a 'genius' at the apple store tomorrow to have my iPad replaced, but all seems good since upgrade, so can now cancel that.  Upgrade did stall at one point but when restarted, all went smoothly and all my apps are working ok.  Loving the new format, especially safari tabs and maps.

iOS 5 fixed my wifi streaming issues. No longer continually dropping out. I watched a live 2 hour show with no problems. Yay!
