Q: Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Hello,

Even after the update to 6.0.1 , I continue to have this disconnection issue. It happens less often but still there. I noticed that it happens very often when there is no download activity like when reading a long web page. So it could be related to some power management issue with wifi that has been introduced with iOS 6.

I do not face any problem now after changing my router to netgear http://www.flipkart.com/netgear-wgr614-wireless-n-150-router/p/itmdffys9gjghbzz? pid=RTRDFFYGDHZKZH4Y

The connection is excellent and i never had any drop in connection after i changed the router. I now use the beetel 110TC1 modem.

Issue solved by manually changing 2.4GHz b/g/n wireless network from default channel setting "AUTO" to "6" on router wireless setup page.

(iPad2 on iOS 6.0.1)

@James: Wow. I wouldn't have expected that to fix it. Go figure.

This is not a solution at all as that would work for your home network only. In my case that did not help at all.

Actually I did not remember having such issues with iOS 5. Nothing has changed to my router setup.

This is making me nuts. I cannot even play scrabble with my wife over wifi of have facetime meeting anymore !!

Also for few days, Mail is not behaving like it should be (actually it does not collect email most of the time since Friday) !!!

@Papagaiou: It seems that people have found quite a few random things that fixes this problem and not one fix solves everyone's problem. If I were you, I would buy an Apple Airport router to test. See if it fixes it. You can always return it later. If it fixes it then at least you know your iPad is okay.

I am sorry to hear that it didn't work for you.

I'd had no issue with my ipad2 wifi even after iOS 6 update until I moved from a town house where I could only see three WLANs in the vicinity, into a condo where I can now find a list of WLANs. I used the same router (Netgear WNDR3400) with the same setting and suddenly I started experiencing the on/off issue with my ipad wifi. I tried reboot, switch wifi on/off, and router reset. None of them worked.

This morning I had enough with it and decided to do something. I came across an article about wifi radio frequency interference. It discussed the similar syndrome and suggested to manually pick a different channel when you find yourself in a noisy wifi environment. I did it and it has solved my wifi connection problem. I don't know if that was the root cause of the issue, but it just happened to work.

Hope you could find out a viable solution for your case soon.

Use netgear router. And the encryption should be wpa2 personal. It solved my problem.

iPad 3 with iOS 6 also has a problem with AES wireless encryption. Change it to TKIP. Obviously this is still a problem if you aren't at home.

There is no problem with AES wireless encryption. I use it all the time with my iPad 3 on iOS 6.

I don't understand why people feel the need to claim there is no problem just because they're not experiencing it.

Given the vast amount of posts about iPad wifi problems, CLEARLY there is something wrong.

For the record, after trying just about everything on this forum, the only thing that worked was to get an Airport Express to sit along side my trusty Netgear router. Since then, not one drop out.

It seems I am not the only one having issues with WiFi.  I connect to my home DLink router while at home and have a pocket WiFi when on the go.  I have different issue with both WiFis.  The problems started in the past month or so. I upgraded to the latest iOS the problems aggravated.  I can't watch YouTube video on either WiFi system. I was able to watch YouTube videos through the pocket WiFi before the upgrade.  Twitter, Facebook, linkedIn are not working through mobile WiFi but are OK through home WiFi.

Can anyone help if I am doing something wrong.

Indeed all solutions proposed in thé forum that consist in changing router settings are not solutions ! We are talking of a mobile device that must be able to connect universally where you can be.

Clearly you have not read back through the many pages of this post. This problem started long before IOS6. Just because YOU noticed after IOS6 doesn't mean that was the source. Just because some people cannot find the problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

If you read, there have been countless problems that center around connectivity. The fixes have ranged from router settings to replacing the iPad altogether. I have read at least 6 different fixes for this problem and random people reporting success and failure while trying these 6 or so things.

IMO there is more than 1 problem with the iPads and likely having to do with manufacturing date, chipsets used, bios used, maybe IOS issues, etc. The important thing to point out is that APPLE HAS NEVER TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY for this.

The simplest solution that has worked about 90% of the time is buying an Apple Airport router. I don't know why, but it must handle the protocols and handshake in some weird/secret/dumb Apple manner. I hate this solution because it is expensive, puts more $ in Apple's pockets and is sort of ridiculous to think you have to buy a router just to please i-"Devices". If you don't want to go that route (which I didn't) then you need to spend hours messing with your router. I did it and found a solution that works for ME. It doesn't mean that MY solution will fix everyone's problems.

I did NOT upgrade my IOS to 6 just for this reason. I am scared it will break it again by introducing a new problem.
