Q: Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Greetings Community,

I recently purchased the iPad 2 16GB WiFi only device. One thing I noticed, the WiFi will only work for a short while, then completely stop. I have to disable and enable the wireless to get it working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any resolution? iOS version is 4.3.

Thanks.

Saumil.

I think i found the fix for my issue. I upgraded to 4.3.1 and no wifi connection at all no matter what. Finally i changed the wireless router to broadcast on channel 13 as suggested in other post and it worked for me. Finally

I am also having issues. Every 20 minutes or so I lose connection to the wifi (even when I'm sitting right next to the router). I have a basic router from Comcast Cable (Barricade N) and it's six months old. Wifi is working perfectly for my Wii/Netflix which is furthest away from the router. Here's what I have done: Contacted the cable company and ran diagnostics with the router. It is working perfectly. Called Apple and talked to tech support (1.5 hours) and went through the process of updating/restoring twice, no luck fixing the problem. They replaced my ipad. Still having the same issues.

How can it not be working when I am sitting right next to the connection? It shows there is a full signal on the ipad even when it drops the signal. What am I doing wrong? Is it the ipad or do I simply repel technology? I didn't spend $$$ for a product that has to be constantly reset.

I'm starting to think the ipad has been overhyped and maybe I should just get a refund.

P.S. I also tried the suggestion offered by Grant and it didn't work.

Note that you have a wireless-N router. The Wii is a wireless-G device, while the iPad may be trying to connect on wireless-N. So (if the cable company didn't already have you try this), you might try turning off wireless-N on your router, and see if the iPad will connect reliably on wireless-G like the Wii. If wireless-N is already off, try turning it on (you will need to set it to use a mixed 802.11g/n mode, or you'll lock out your Wii).

yup i got the same issue straight out of box, n after updating still hv problem
it show full wifi signal from dlink just no connection, tried turning wifi n airportmode as suggested by other users
both my iphone 3gs and 1st gen macbook pro r connected to it no problem

ipad 2 also shows full signal but no connection it cannont fully receive info such as DNS and router address
as of now the only way to get my ipad online is by turning on the iphone's personal hotspot setting and pair with ipad via bluetooth

i hope they come up with patch soon

    The same problem here.
I Bought this morning ipad2 32GB wifi only; out of the box, after a few minutes of connection, wifi stopped working. My router is a linksys E1000 in mixed mode (b, g, n) and works well with all other wifi client.
After reset and upgrade to 4.3.1 the problem "seems" solved.

Has anyone else noticed improvement or fix with the upgrade to 4.3.1?

I'm having the same exact issue w/my ipad2. I can't get anyone to help me here. I'm about ready to take this thing back! My existing router works for our iphones perfectly. And this ipad2 shows I'm connected and I have a strong 3 bars. Funny thing is that I bought it to best buy and complained....but while I was there I connected to their wifi & used the web. What in the heck is this problem? Is it my router, but if so why is it that my iphones work? I'm not a happy camper w/this ipad2 at all! If an APPLE rep is on pls advise on how we proceed. Thx.

ok, I powered my router off & then on again....it worked. I found if you have multiple wifi devices using the same router you must re-initialize from time to time. I hope this works for you as it did for me!

In general, I've found that wireless routers are the least reliable wireless devices, so I always look at the router first when I have a wireless connectivity problem. I have to say that I have not found Apple routers to be particularly reliable in the past, although I should note that all of my experience has been with older 802.11b and 802.11g models, so perhaps their more recent routers with wireless-N are more reliable. Most of the Apple routers I've had needed to be restarted periodically, and I still have an Airport Express that needs to be restarted almost daily. I've also run into problems with a Linksys router that connected just fine to some devices, but was constantly dropping the connection with others, but a replacement unit worked better, so I may have just had a lemon. I've had quite good results with D-Link routers, which seem to work pretty consistently and hardly ever need to be reset.

I did have some initial trouble getting my iPad2 to connect to my D-Link DIR-825 in 5 GHz Wireless-N-only mode. Thinking maybe that the problem was the 5 GHz, I switched it to 2.4 GHz 802.11g/n mode, and connected fine and has been 100% reliable ever since. But then I switched back to 5 GHz and it continued to connect. Perhaps I initially made an error with my password (although I was pretty careful) or perhaps the required router reset when I changed the settings cured the problem.

I have the Trendnet TEW-651BR and my IPAD 2 was constantly dropping the wifi signal. I just tried switching the router from mixed mode to using only 802.11N and it seems to be fixed. I can tell because I have the 60 minutes app that would crash about every 2 minutes while streaming the video content. I just watched a full video without a single crash.
