Q: Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

meanwhile i tested my ipad 2 outside the home network - with our company's wifis. there are two available: one with most probably wpa2 encryption and an open one. as i expected i got the connections losses with the wpa2 wifi. and - again as expected - no problems with the open one. to be honest, i haven't noticed any speed issues - everything loaded comfortably fast. no problems with streaming HD contents from apple's movie trailer website.

back home again the ipad2 flawlessly connected to my wpa-personal home network and had no single wifi loss since more than 12 hours. i also had no speed problems: browsing and streaming videos with air video worked fine.

Just received my iPad 2 today May 5 and it came with iOS 4.3.2.  At its worst every other webpage in safari hangs.  I have iPod3, iPod4, and 3 laptops that have no hangups with my Airport Extreme router.  Hope this issue is resolved soon.

I bought an iPad 2 16GB (Wi-Fi only) on 30th April, i'm facing Wi-Fi drop issues, I'm using a Netgear router, none of my other devices are giving me any trouble (iphone 4, iphone 3 & Macbook).

On my iPad the the wi-fi signals suddenly disappear and it happens every once an hour. i have reset the network settings as well as twice restored iPad in less than a weeks time.

Today i called apple support and i was told to reset my network settings & restore the ipad, and if things do not improve, i should book an appointment with apple genius bar.

I'm going to an apple store tomorrow, will let u guys know of the outcome.

Replacing your router or going to the apple stores genius bar is a waste of money and time. The issue is with apples implementation of WPA2 security protocols, whether it is the hardware or the iOS is up for debate. Given how widespread the issue is, and how it seems to only affect the ipad2, I would believe the problem is hardware related.  Suggestions to get new routers, or to change security settings on wifi networks are attempts by apple to shift blame from an obvious deign or programming flaw, and obfuscate the real problem.

I've spent weeks reading through various thread like this with a similar dropping wifi (IP address, not actual connection) problem. I'm also experiencing extremely slow speed at times. I'm running a Netgear3700 (seems like a lot of Netgear folks in here?!) using WPA2. iPad1, iPhone4, and Laptops all working fine until iPad2 (32gb Wifi)  entered the equation.

Tried replacing the hardware at the Genius Bar, that didn't help. I tried tweaking the wifi network settings with no relief. Finally, I took the dramatic step of isolating the B/G and N networks into two different SSIDs, then I turned OFF security and stopped broadcasting the SSID. I now have only the iPad2's connected on the N network and it's been working fine for days without needing a reset and speed has been solid as well.

It's a crappy solution, and one that I cannot believe Apple still hasn't addressed, but I thought I would share to see if it helped someone or has any ideas what I could be doing differently/better....

apple has to react somehow - they can't just ignore the problem, forcing customers to live with a faulty device. all of us want to have a fully working device that also works outside the home network. let's hope that they can/will fix it with a software update or a device replacement program.

So what is the best setting for the iPad 2 at the moment for Internet speed WPA2 or WPA ? 

And to fix the droping problem altogether is it best to use the static ip in the iPads wifi options. ?

I was having problems with my iPad 2. Not at home but when trying to connect and stay connected at hotels when on the road which is often. Last weekend I did several things.

Restored and set up as new device. Panicked because my documents in pages, goodreader, etc were gone.

So I then restored back to original device name.

Everything seemed fine around home. I then updated to the latest ios for the location tracking thing.

Then I reset my network settings wiping them clean.

Then the last two days I was once again in the hotel I was in last week that gave me fits. Everything worked great. Once again saw the authentication screen. Hooked me up. Stayed connected. Same deal at the airport.

Don't know what really happened but I am feelin much better again. Works just like the iPad 1 did for me earlier. I am wondering if all the places and wifi locations I have been on since april 2010 and never once resetting the network stuff had my iPad a bit confused. Plus I transferred all of that from 1 to 2.

I was having WiFi drop out on my iPad 2 as it wouldn't wake up after sleeping.

I have 2 routers at home - A Netgear DGN2000 upstairs and an Edimax (used as a signal booster / repeater) downstairs. The iPad was confused by the 2 routers so I have disconnected the Edimax repeater and now with only the Netgear operating, I get no dropouts upstairs.

Downstairs I sometimes get a signal drop but only because my Netgear signal is weak.

I plan to install a second Netgear DGN2000 downstairs and set it up exactly as the other - to act as a bridge. That way, I should get strong signals throughout the house and the iPad shoud not get confused.

I am on WEP security.

My ipad2 have the same problem after it has been working so well for the first 20 days.

I remember the problem started when I was in the college, however, the issue was a very occational occurance only back then, like happen every 15 minutes or longer.

Then, the problem became more serious these days, now it dropped almost once my ipad2 is idling ( can be as short as every 1 min)

I did a control experiment that I tried to download a large size game (70mb), and kept my ipad busy downloading (>5min download time), during the download time, the connection had been working fine, with zero connection drop.

I also tried continuously surfing webpage for 5min, works fine.

once i did nothing for a min, the connection dropped.

I tried the follwing solution, nothing works:

1) static ip

2) G-mode only in router

3) fixed channel in router

4) combination of 2 & 3

My observations:

1) the ipad2 wifi get worse the longer you own it

2) Connection drops when ipad idles

Is it a software issue or hard ware problem?should I claim repair?

Hi, I am having a similar problem on my iPhone and iPad 2. The wifi will connect, but after some time, it will lose connection and I have to reconnect manually or toggle wifi on and off in order to reconnect. My connection may last from anywhere around 5 to 30 minutes before losing connection. I have a Dell laptop, and my gf has a 13" new MacBook pro and we get very stable wifi connection in the same spots that my iPad has problems. I've tried to disable wpa2 network security and I did not broadcast the ssid. I am typing on the iPad right now, and haven't had a problem yet (only been 30 minutes). But previously, it wasn't even able to connect in the location I am trying to use it (neither iPhone or iPad was working in this spot, while my laptop was fine). I will report back as the days go on to report how reliable the wifi is working.

Must be a problem with apples handling of wifi security on these portable devices...

, I've only had my ipad2 for 3 days now. I've had this issue out of the box

Same problems as everyone else. I have an airport extreme and removed ALL security and still have connection reliability/strength problems. I can have my MacBook air. And friends pro in addition to my compaq in the same spot with adequate signal. I'll admit it got better when I removed all security but thats not an acceptable solution even if it completely fixed the problem, which it doesn't. Still looking for an APPLE solution...

My ipad wifi works again!

I have been trying to fix my ipad since this morning. I am not sure what I have done to make it work again. Below are what done

1) iPad restored --> not work yet

2) Stop SSID broadcast --> not work yet

3) Disable Wireless Security --> not work yet

4) Then reconnect using static ip as i changed it before --> not work yet

5) connect again thru DHCP --> WORK again!

I changed to Static ip before because in DHCP mode the connection constantly drops.

Thestatic ip method didnt work, but when I changed back to DHCP, I TOTALLYlost my wireless connection athough it is shown as connected.

Then I perform 1) to 5) in sequence, it worked again! have no idea which step make it work.
