Q: Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Greetings Community,

I recently purchased the iPad 2 16GB WiFi only device. One thing I noticed, the WiFi will only work for a short while, then completely stop. I have to disable and enable the wireless to get it working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any resolution? iOS version is 4.3.

Thanks.

Saumil.

I have owned my iPad 2 for about a month.  Connecting fine at home and all of the sudden this past week it gets weak to no signal if I am 2 rooms away from the router. Have to walk down the hall and stand in the doorway to the room the router is in and point the device directly at the router to get a signal. When I start to walk away it drops the signal. Wake up Apple, haven't enough people complained? My MacBook has a strong signal.

It keeps asking for my password then telling me it can't connect. Ugh.

This *****. Works fine at Starbucks. Why is it only not working at home?

My iPad 2 64GB 3G has problems with loss of wi-fi connection everyday.  Whether I'm checking my mail, surfing the web or checking the App Store---it's extremely frustrating.  It also often ask me to enter the password to my wi-fi in order to connect again.  Apple needs to fix this problem soon.

I've been having the same problem. Yesterday I did the following and have had perfect wifi connection. Only time will tell. Settings/Genereal/Reset/Reset Network Settings. Hope this helps.

Apple is not going to do anything about this problem other then sell more defective iPads2! Have you seen how many people have this problem? The US press has not covered it. I think what is needed is a class action. Apple now has more cash then the US government. What we need is a law firm to sue them in our behalf. I have an Apple product that does not work. The iPad2 came out in March. It is one August and Apple has done nothing about it. Why should they if we do nothing about it? In my last post regarding this problem I called Apple customers sheep. Judging from this ongoing problem and the reaction to it I am correct.

This seems to have worked for me. 2nd day. Perfect wifi connection.

Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. This seems to easy. But time will tell. Good luck.

Since your iPad 2 is still under warranty if it doesn't work why don't you just contact Apple Support or visit an Apple to fix it?

You call us sheep? Can you tell us what you have done to bring this to the attention of:

    News Agencies?

Technology sites such as Engadget, Ipad Guru, etc.

Do you think that Apple doesn't already know that they have thousands of customers complaining?

Do you think that if Apple could fix this with software they wouldn't have done so by now?

The fix for the iPAD 2 intermittent wireless connectivity problem is probably the iPAD 3 (educated guess that it will have a modern Wifi Chipset in it instead of something that was released halfway through the last decade before the final 802.11n spec was ratified - as per current chipset in iPAD 1 and 2).

Good luck on sueing Apple they have more cash reserves than the US government.

If you don't like the product take it back and get a refund like many of us have already done. (Consumer attitude and protection laws in other countries obviously make this easier than in the States and Denmark).

Have you read these comments. It's quite obvious that these people have already gone through the logical steps of contacting Apple for support. If they had gotten any they wouldn't be on this site. It seems that the router is taking most of the blame but many others as well as myself have no problems with other Apple products getting a good wifi connection. Omly the iPad 2. A complete reading of this thread makes it clear there's a problem with the iPad because there hasn't been one person or Apple that has given any actual helpful solution.

Class action suites do nothing but make money for lawyers. Do you really think Apple could not handle a simple class action suite. If the percentage of people affected is low then Apple will simply keep the problem bottled up and correct the problem on the next iPad. I had the similar problem with Nissan. They drug out the issue for two years hoping I'd go away. They finally aid me off (shut up money) and I passed my problem on to the next person. Sad but unfortunately that's the business world. Widespread media attention is one of the few things Apple will respond to but if not enough people are affected the problem will be swept under the carpet.

I'm really sorry to get off topic here but I was away from the thread for a while and feel I need to respond even though I'm almost certain my response will be completely misunderstood.  Maybe someone willl get a laugh though...

You, ( who either forgot to include the emocon that shows or  JK or doesn't believe in it) are telling ME, ( who lives in MS...sarcasm is pretty  much a way of life here ftr) to look up definition of sarcasm?

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Again for future reference and to save yourself the embarassment of someone else pointing out the differences between what your TYPING says about how you feel versus how you feel, PUT A   OR " JK" or something coherent to illustrate ( i am just joking..not serious)  DUH..because notice something..NO ONE ON HERE YET CAN SEE YOUR LIVE VIDEO FACIAL EXPRESSIONS to be able to ' READ" your personality beat-around-the-bush conversational feelings.

Proper communication.  IT HELPS.  Discussion is closed.

Just to clarify because you seem to have trouble reading, I didn't write the sarcastic post.  Mine was a serious response to your pointless diatribe (hence the lack of emoticons) about a sarcastic post you mistook for seriousness.  And for the record, the post in question did, in fact, have a " ;-) " You're just a careless reader as evidenced by your mis-targeted, poorlly worded response.  It has been said that proper communication...helps.  Indeed.

Yes, I have read the comments. It's not at all obvious that the logical steps of contacting Apple support have been followed. There are posts where problems have been brought to Apple's attention and iPads replaced. Unfortunately, there also seem to be many people who are waiting for a software fix to what may be a hardware problem with their iPad (or their router). This will be a long wait.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "because there hasn't been one person or Apple that has given any actual helpful solution". If you read through the entire thread you will find many cases where problems have been solved by router firmware updates, router replacements, configuration corrections, iPad replacements, etc. Don't expect any comment from Apple here, Apple does not respond in these forums.

Do you feel that the iPads that are having this wifi issue should be returned if possible. That the problem is with the iPad itself. I don't mean all just a small %. It just appears that those that are going the the router root are having very little success.

Good news that I wanted to share with you. I went to an apple service point today (the netherlands) and after showing the wifi intermittent problem on their network, without any discussion, they have replaced my ipad as it's within 12 months and still within official apple guarantee (as they pointed out themselves, in the netherlands according to EU law the guarantee is 24 months). TNT will deliver it tomorrow.

Since i've dealt with this type of problem before. My question is, did they give you a new iPad to keep you quiet or because that particular iPad was defective. Because now that they have hopefully solved your problem that will keep you from commenting on this site and bothering them. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that you finally got some satisfaction but what about all the others out there that are having wifi issues.

This solution solved all my connectivity troubles with my iPad2.  Set the static IP on my iPad2, and enabled MAC Address Filtering on my router (did the same when I switched to a differnt router, and still no further problems).

Hope it works for you too!
