Q: Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Greetings Community,

I recently purchased the iPad 2 16GB WiFi only device. One thing I noticed, the WiFi will only work for a short while, then completely stop. I have to disable and enable the wireless to get it working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any resolution? iOS version is 4.3.

Thanks.

Saumil.

Not such a good idea.  That just means that instead of your router broadcasting your SSID, all of your connected devices are doing so instead.

Same problem here. Have my iPhone 3GS running 4.3.2 and my iPad2 on 4.3.3. While I have my airport extreme base station set to wifi n with b/g compatibility. Nothing special further and all at stock settings. Works fine and speedy with my MacBook pro but both my iPhone and iPad give me problems. My iPhone does have internet acces but really slow. And my iPad has connection to wifi but doesn't manage to load anything over wifi.

Came across another thread here at Apple, which describes my problem. I indeed did manage to get internet access on my iPad2 by changing my Airport Extreme's settings to wifi a with b/g compatibility. However, the speed gets really slow.

Really hope that Apple solves this problem really soon. You can't sell wifi only devices with sub-functional wifi and keep silent about it. Sometimes it's just best to acknowledge the problem and tell people when they can expect a solution. So people can look forward to it and know what to expect.

    EDIT:

just some addition. My younger brother has an ipad1 on 4.3.2 and his wifi, although a little slow (just like on my iphone), does work

I too have had ongoing discussions with apple re connectivity.  Have changed settings numerous times on my router (changing channels did improve it somewhat) but eventually apple changed my iPad over.  Guess what, problem still persists.  The best remedy is to 'forget this network' and rejoin, although very annoying, only takes a minute and the iPad will then reconnect immediately.... Love to find out from apple why???  Can't wait for the fix...

Doesn't this then seem to you like it is your router having a problem? I bought a new router and I have had no connectivity problems at home since the new router was installed. I had an old Belkin 54 g router. Now I have a new Netgear N600 Dual Band Gigabit Router. I was told by a family member that the "g" routers are old. Mine was 6 years old. the electronics store said you can expect 5 years out of a router. My MacBooks ran just fine, but the iPads maybe just need more power or newer stuff? I don't know, just know it now works.

I was NOT connecting at all at home, or only connecting if I was standing right beside the router in the back room, but if I walked away it dropped the connection. Now I am watching movies and everything it is supposed to do just fine. Fast speed!

I had exactly the same problem with my IPad 2. I have had my IPad since July and until last week I had had no problems connecting to wifi. Last week the wifi started dropping out continually and often wouldn't start all. I had to keep going into settings and do a reset to get the connection back. Even then it would only last for a few minutes before dropping again.

Yesterday I took my IPad to the apple store and asked them to return it to it's out of box state, of course I had backed everything up before requesting this. When I returned home I contacted my Internet provider and asked them to check the settings on my account and at the same time they very helpfully checked my router settings.

So far this has worked a treat and my  Ipad is working just like it did before.

    Hope that this helps you.

I have an iPad2 and have the same wifi dropout problem that I have read on this thread 100 times. My router is a Netgear DGN1000.  Does anyone know whether any particular settings on this router might solve the problem ?

    Thanks.

    Greetins.

I'm afraid I fix my Wifi issue as many of you has.

So I have a modem/router that my ISP ( zonhub) gave me and as you said the ipad wifi drops and when we wake up it we need to turn wifi off and on again.

So I remembered that I had a linksys wrt54gc keep in the box I picked it and plug the ethernet cable to my zonhub and my linksys.

In my isp modem I turned Wifi Off  made it just a modem and turn on wifi on linksys made it a router. Nothing more and now ipad2 works like a charm

Before it I had to change the wpa to WEP or even without encriptation

So it looks like a a conflit with the ipad fw and some routers.

Congratulations JimHdh, you are the 1000th poster to this thread (and Apple geniuses still say there are no significant WiFi problems).

I have an ipad 2 white 32gb and it is constantly losing the wifi connection since I did the OS update. I have TWC Signature Service where I have 50mb down and 5mb up speed. Every wireless device in my house flies but the ipad. It is pretty unusable. And to think that I was about to get my wife an ipad. Where is the fix for this fundamental problem???

I am frustrated by the same connection drops. No other device omn my network has an issue except my iPad 2 32G WiFi. Even more frustrated that apparently Apple doesn't see a problem.

I don't know what happened but my problem with wifi has stopped just as quickly as it started. I didn't do anything. As I said in my initial post somewhere buried here, I never had an issue with any of my iPads and I had both since they were first released, then all of a sudden In early August all 4 of my iPads (2 original iPads and 2 iPad 2) started to drop wifi. It lasted maybe a week or so. Well since then I have had no connection problems. So hopefully what ever was wrong is now fixed.

As I said I didnt do anything to my router. Lucky me.
