Q: Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Greetings Community,

I recently purchased the iPad 2 16GB WiFi only device. One thing I noticed, the WiFi will only work for a short while, then completely stop. I have to disable and enable the wireless to get it working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any resolution? iOS version is 4.3.

Thanks.

Saumil.

Hi everybody, I am having the same issue with a White 16 gig iPad 2. Just ran some trouble shooting on my network and nothing seems wrong there as far as laptops, iPod Touch and my phone. Appears to be iPad that has an unstable connection to a perfectly fine Wifi location.

Yea mine seems to be droping wifi constantly even after a restore. Don't know if I Should return it or if its just a bug.

Wow, this is really getting annoying. So I found in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2780119&tstart=0

that it's a difficulty of your wireless Network Mode, seems my iPad works best with a pure N Mode. But not in mixed b/g/n mode, which wouldn't be such a hard switch, but now my phone and iPod Touch can't access the wireless signal with this pure N Mode! Ugh, annoying... In that thread it was mentioned that Apple has recognized this as an issue that needs to be addressed, hopefully soon.

Hope this helps people that were thinking of returning the device.

There have been ongoing problems with the way Apple implements its wifi, not just on the Ipad but also on some of the newer laptops. Please let us know how it works or does not work in public wifi spots. Some people in the past (not yet IPAD 2, obviously,)have reported not having problems in public spots but only at home.

Yep I still have the same issue even after I removed mixed mode from my router. I have tried a restore and still my wifi hangs up and i have to go to settings and switch on airplane mode.

Come on apple fix this. I'm loving my new iPad 2. But this is getting annoying.

I have an iPad and just bought an iPad 2 today. The iPad 2 lost connectivity when I left the room, whereas the iPad and two iPhones I have get good WiFi connectivity all through the house and outdoors. Called Apple; restored network settings, reset router, no relief. I got my money back. Not the way I planned on spending my Saturday afternoon. I would have exchanged the thing but the Wal-Fart that I got it from only got 2 units. The other one was gone by the time I called back the same day. Oh well, I'll survive I suppose but am a little disappointed.

I hear ya, so that Network Mode N I was using eventually gave out as well. So I went to a g/n Mixed Mode and things seem to be a bit more pleasant. I just watched an entire episode of My Name is Earl via HDMI over Netflix.

Hope it helps, my router has 6 Modes to choose from, I might have been on an Entirely Mixed Mode(like b/g/n) when I was experiencing all the wireless hang ups.

I have the wifi+3g but the 3G is not yet activated on my iPad 2.
My iPad 2 has crashed and locked up since minute one at home. Rebooted itself multiple times today. Reading this discussion, and especially the link to the wifi problem, I turned off Wi-fi and BAM! no more crashes.

Apple really needs to look at iOS 4.3 to fix some of the problems with wi-fi. AND SOON.

It seems this is a common issue. Just to be clear, my iPad2 shows good signal strength but nothing works via WiFi. Is this the same issue everyone else is having?
