Hardware upgrade of MBP 13" 2011: RAM and HDD

Hi:

I ordered the MBP 13" 2011, but I want to upgrade RAM and disk right away. But Apple seems to hide the full specs to get the right ones from a different supplier. So, will this be compatible?

- 2x Kingston 4 GB - DIMM SO, 204 connectors, DDR3, 1333 MHz / PC3-10600 - no intermediate memory - no ECC KTA-MB1333/4G.
- Seagate Momentus 750 GB, 2.5", SATA-300 5400 rpm, 16 MB buffer, ST9750423AS

AFAIK as for RAM the Kingston MBXXXX are for MacBook, the Seagate HDD is 1/8H so it should fit, I find no thinner.

I suppose at 5400rmps battery life will not suffer, what about 7200rpms?

Thanks, Erik

Thanks for the links, I'm in Spain and OWC is not available from my supplier, but it seems I've got the right RAM.

As for the disk, it conflicts with my physics courses that 7200rpms should use less energy (and I suppose Apple would have chosen 7200 if you were right): It takes more energy to accelerate the drive to the higher speed, and once up, it costs more to keep the drive running, friction is about the double in this case, assuming the same mechanics.

So, the interesting part is if this has significant impact on battery life, is it 1% or 10%? more?

I just bought a 13" MBP for my wife (online through Apple's teacher discount program), that has the 128GB Solid State HD, the 2.3 GHz Core i5 processor, single (not dual) channel, and 4Gb RAM installed. I want to maximize its speed, but didn't want to pay the extra $180US to Apple to upgrade to 8GB RAM. With this configuration, which is best source for compatible, after-market, 8GB of RAM (two sticks of 4GB), and is it worth it to do this? Tiger Direct does not have it. My wife is not a power user (nor a video editor), but can have several apps open simultaneously. Thanks.

Here's a great site to look at for upgrading your mac and viewing the compatible hardware to do so. It also includes links or sells the hardware. I suggest buying from a cheaper source, though, once you discover the parts you need.

This place is great cause it gives you step by step instructions on how to replace things.

It also has over 1,000 guides.
