Update just plopped iTunes+QT and Safari 5 update on my system. All indicated a good install (no errors). Now NONE of the 3 browsers on that system are able to connect to the 'net. All other programs (ftp, etc.) are connecting with no problems. No browsers (safari, FF, and IE8) all open, but just show a blank window with the spinning whatever. I can also connect to the shared folder from my Mac without problems. Update did not create a restore point, so I can't back down.
So what's common to the browsers that would make them all fail?
Win7 x64 (Safari installed as x86).
Thanks.

Can you doublecheck something for me please, John? (This isn't a cure in itself, but can rule out some possibilities, and point us towards some other possible causes of the problem.)
Create a new Windows User account. Log out of your usual account and log into the new one. Do all three browsers function properly in the new account?
(I'm checking in particular here for signs that network and internet connection settings have gone funky in your usual user account.)
The problem corrected itself the following day. My apologies for not posting that here. No idea what happened, made no changes during that time. They just started working again. All other 'net operations were OK under my user ID (ftp, local net, etc.) - just the 3 browsers messed up. M$ network 'wizards' could find nothing wrong (no comment). Very strange.
