ITunes is giving error when I try to restore the 1611/2011 iPhone 4,
the problem happened after I did a sync after a few minutes the iPhone restarted and keeps restarting itself alone,
tried to restore and it shows these errors, "no jailbreak", please need help.

iPhone 4 32GB, iOS 4, MacOs (10.6.7) / Windows 7

A 1611 indicates a potential hardware problem - although it is more likely to be your 30 pin connector.

Error 23, 28, 29, 40, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1611: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. If the MAC address is missing or the IMEI is the default value (00 499901 064000 0), this can also confirm a hardware issue.

You can read all about sync related errors here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

Already using three different 30-pin cable and I'm still with the problem, please need help.

I had various problems since updating, my text message sound cut off after 1 sec, the phone seems slow and unresponsive, I am currently restoring my phone to the backup before the update. Blah

    Hi,

I get exactly the same problem with my iPHone 4 for each updates since iOS 4.1. On each update, I get the "error 1611" after it wipes out the phone. Then my phone refuses to reboot unless being connected to iTunes, but with my machine it crashes every time...

I tried to use different cables (4 different ones)

=> no success  (and my cable works very well for everyday syncs, I only get crashes on updates)

    I tried with another computer

=> the iPhone reboots and updates well (but then I have to reimport all the setup of my programs etc on the phone after resyncing on my own computer)

I tried after uninstalling and reinstalling ALL Apple Softwares on my laptop (when i had the problem with iOS 4.2 update)

=> The update worked  well after reinstalling, but today I face the exact same problem with iOS 4.3 update)

    Configuration :

    - Windows 7 64bits (on a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo)

PLEASE HELP, looking at different forums, we seem to be a lot of people having the same problem. It is very annoying to get such errors at each update...

    Best regards.

If it isn't the cable, and you have tried 3 other computers, then the hardware problem is going to be with your iPhone, you will need to get it serviced.

  • Benoit Jolly Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Thank you for your answer but I doubt this is a hardware problem...

As I wrote, the update is a success when I do the sync from another computer (then the update works and I can re-sync with my own computer)...

And after reinstalling iTunes on my own computer, the update works well also (until the next one). That was the case when I updated from iOS 4.1 to 4.2... I had the crash, reinstalled iTunes, the update worked then but on 4.3 I get again the same symptoms...

    Best regards.

If you notice my response was not to you but was to clvechini, who has tried on other computers and has had no luck.

Best regards and I hope you are able to solve your problem which you have narrowed to your computer. Have you tried a complete wipe of your Windows partition and reinstall?

  • Benoit Jolly Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    Sorry for the mistake.

To go on with my experiments, I have just uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it on my computer and then the restore function works... (I loose the apps folders organization after sync, but it works, I find back my music and everything else)

That is annoying if every time there is an update we have to do a complete reinstallation...

    Best regards.

I had the same Issue. But It kind of a an interrupt request (IRQ) error during  a previous restore error or update, that is cached within the OS registry. but apple say its a hardware device issue, which I doubt after fixing mine....but I tried all the instructions with apple support but did not work. The error keep moving from one to another. 1611,1603,1604, 3194 etc.

    • First Try to create a new administrater account and download the latest ITunes. if it does not work then follow the next instruction.
    • I tried reinstalling iTunes but did not work and I was having audio problems as well with my computer( if you having the audio problems, right click the audio icon on the take task bar and click on the playback devices and go to "Advanced" tab and uncheck the two check statements).
    • I think if you able to create a Partition on Your hard disk (HD) and install a clean operating system, BUT ALWAYS BACK UP AND NOTE THE PROGRAMS YOU NEED TO REINSTALL
    • BACK UP you data and format your hard  disk(HD) and install a clean operating system.
    • After that go to the apple website download the latest iTunes.
    • After the download is complete, click run, don't save it and Dont allow iTunes to be your default player, basically i did not check all the 3 questions I was asked before installing ITunes.
    • After the installation I went to "All programs" and look for iTunes and fired it up, connected my devices and it detected it in recovery mode.
    • And click the restore button in ITunes. And that is it I was back and enjoying it.
    • if you are not and expert with your operating system(OS),just Google for any help with formatting and creating partition. Thank you. by the way I did this on  Windows 7 32bit OS.I believe it will work for other OS too.
    • Also I believe this will work for all the device experiencing this error.(iPhone,IPod touch,IPad 1,2  and all iOS's etc)
    • Thank you once again.

Just had a similar problem with my iPad trying to update to latest OS.

Plugging the USB cable directly into the PC instead of via my DELL monitor fixed the "1611" restore failure.

I had exactly the same problem attempting to upgrade from iOS 4.3.2 to 5.0.1 except with a 4th generation iPod Touch.

The iPod was connected using USB 2.0 via DELL monitor (which works fine for general syncing with iTunes). Switched to case-mounted USB 1.0 port and although it was a long wait for the 500 MB iOS update to transfer it worked.
