Scanning pictures into iPhoto

I am about to scan pictures - what is the easiest way to get them straight into iPhoto and stored in the right place?

I get offered options like store on Desktop etc but not sure the most efficient way to import them.

Thanks.

There is no way to scan directly into iPhoto. IMO your best workflow is to scan and save them to a folder on the Desktop where you can rename them if desired. Then import the folder and its contents into iPhoto at one time creating a new event with those photos.

Note: if you're scanning black and white photos scan them the same as color photos because iPhoto doesn't support the grayscale color profile that scanners apply.

thanks.

iPhoto keeps crashing when I try and scan in photos - had to force quite and reboot three times. So I copied the photos to my PC (which took not ime at all, unlike my Mac) and then transferred across to my Mac via portable hard drive and it doesn't like that either - keep getting the spectrum of colours circling.

I presume this isn't usual?

My hard drive became corrupt before and it still doesn't seem right, as my old Sony laptop performs much better.

No, that's not usual. Have you used this scanner previously with your Mac? What file format are you creating with the scanner? Are you scanning to a folder on the hard drive and then importing from there? What scanner are you using?

Are you able to open any of the scanned files using Preview? If you can then do a Save As, save it to a new file name with the RGB color profile and try importing the new file into iPhoto.

Are you able to import other photos, i.e. not scanned photos, into iPhoto successfully?

Create a new, temporary test library and see if you can import the scanned files into it.

First time that I've set up the scanner with the Mac.

The scanner is a Kodak ESP3 All-in-one-Printer.

Files that I'm creating are JPEGs.

I can transfer other photos into iPhoto.

Have scanned/saved these photos the following ways:
1. To my desktop
2. Into my Pictures folder
3. Onto a portable hard drive via my Sony laptop and then transferred them to my desktop on my Mac.

I can open them in Preview but any attempt to move it in iPhoto causes it to crash.

Will try saving via Preview next. How do I save with the RGB colour profile?

Thanks
