Truecrypt & Macfuse issues on MBP 2001 / 64 bit

Hi,

Has anyone else been experiencing problems with existing and new Truecrypt containers on the new 2011 MBP. I have read on a forum that its related to the 64bit kernel (the 2011 MBP's boot into this by default).

The error message is

/library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) link error; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).

I have tried all the suggested tips to be found, including installing the beta version of MacFuse, removal and re-install of the fusefs.kext file.

I am getting the same issue, MBP 2011. The same setup worked on my SL on MBP 2009.

So the problem seems to be that new BMPs boot 64 bit kernel. Here is a patched version of MacFuse that solved the problem for me:

I am confirming that a creation of a TrueCrypt 7.0a container using my Macbook Pro 15" 2.0Ghz Early 2011 is working with that MACfuse patch, thank you!

Does that patched version of MACfuse break anything or force things to revert to 32-bit that would otherwise run in 64 bits?

And is there any information about what will happen with TrueCrypt and MACfuse in Lion?

Lion is expected to have full disk encryption with XTS, that makes Truecrypt obsolete. We'll wait and see.

But I doubt it'll support the AES-NI like Truecrypt does.

I don't want full-disk encryption, just on selected items -- as one can do with TrueCrypt now (except in OS X 64-bt!)

And of course something stronger than just AES -- which, as I understand things, the U.S. government selected over other, more secure systems as its standard just because it was not all that secure.

Do you really need MacFuse? At http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=supported-operating-systems, it says that TrueCrypt is supported on OS X Lion for both 64-bit and 32-bit.
