Does more RAM decrease battery life?

I'm buying my first mac and I was wondering if buying the 8GB of RAM would decrease the battery, other than buying the 4GB (on the 15" Macbook Pro 2.0GHz)? Or does it only matter how much I am actually using it and running processes at the same time?
