ATV2 sees library but can't connect

I'm in the same boat, I've tried everything I've found after 2 hours of research, and still can't connect....

Totally frustrating Apple!

I have had the similar problems - ie: my ATV2 can see libraries on my laptops and load them fine. However, it sees my large library on my desktop and will not load.

I tried all the other fixes about rebooting my network / turn off home share and back on again / check router channel / switch off firewall - but none of these worked.

I think this is connectivity related - ie: the larger library will not stream / load due to poor connectivity. So to fix this I plugged my ATV into an airport express which is part of my wireless network, and voila it worked. I think the device just doesn't have a very good wifi receiver.

Try checking you firewall settings as i was having this problem with my macbook and i ended up turning off the mac firewall and all went well! hope this works for some!!

I've also tried restarting both ATV and the router with no luck.

I wonder if it's because I"m storing my iTunes library on an external harddrive?

I have this problem but it only happened after the upgrade to Lion, it was perfect before that. I can see the library perfectly but trying to play media now locks up iTunes.

Sweet....!! I had the same problem decribed above; all I did is unplug the ATV2, went to take a shower, and pluged it back in after the shower. I works..

Bellab00's solution worked for me. I have two Apple TVs. After upgrading my Mac I also took the update on one of the ATVs. I could see my library on the ATV, but when selecting was told ITunes could not be found. Yet, I could play a TV show from my Mac and direct it to the ATV. The second unupgraded ATV still worked, until I updated it.

Bellab00's fix solved my problem.

Now I just have to get Remote working on my iPhone and iPad.

This has been a most disruptive set of upgrades.

Have you upgraded iTunes to 10.5 and upgraded the ATV2 software?

Yes I have. And the problems started when I updated the apple tv. With older firmware on apple tv everything worked just fine, but when I updated it didn't see the library. Any over solution?

I am new at this myself, so do not know what else to say, except you have got home sharing on on both machines. If you have it must be something with your network.

Have you got another pc to try if it works with that.

OK, I tried bellaB00's method again (3rd time!) and it worked.

It's working right now, will report back if it fails again though....

I played a couple of movies and a couple of music tracks before I posted that it seemed to have worked. After watching most of Bolt with my kid I wanted to put some music on, the whole thing just went back to the spinning circle, we were waiting for ages. I VNC'd on to the Mac Pro that is running iTunes, the whole thing was going very slow and iTunes was hanging. As soon as iTunes stopped hanging the music started playing, this was about 3 minutes later though. The upgrade to Lion has been a disaster for me and I think this is another manifestation of it, all apps hang more for me in Lion and I'm constantly watching the spinning beachball. Either more RAM or back to Snow Leopard is the answer for me I think, the current situation is not worth tolerating.
