My iPhone did the same thing this evening while out at dinner, leaving me without a phone at all. It really ticks me off that Apple would impose such a measure on its users/developers. Obviously I can’t update via iTunes because I’m running 4.3b3 and iTunes assumes it is 4.3 public. I can’t find the GM seed on the developer site, (possibly due to being angry and not thinking strait).

But I need it right now, because I need my phone right now. Though even after this is resolved I will have to go through updating, re-syncing, and transferring all my media back to my phone. Oh and *+by the way,+* it won’t let me back up the iPhone, so I will again lose all of my data and pictures. Thanks guys, thanks.

This is extremely frustrating. What if something terrible happened to me and pissy proprietary Apple decided to deactivate my phone, thus severing my link to the outside world. I could have died or something! Okay maybe not, but the point is I NEED MY PHONE BACK! Somebody helpful, and without sarcasm, (@*Lawrence Finch*), do help us resolve this problem.

Thanks!

My phone was on 4.3b3 and I got the same issue tonight. I downloaded and installed Xcode 4 which has the 4.3 release SDK (but as far as I could tell, not the 4.3 OS images?) and then pulled the 4.3 iOS GM seed from our office to see if I could get the phone up and running that way but no dice. I can't choose the 4.3 GM release to restore the phone from in xcode because it says "This version of the OS cannot be installed on this iPhone because downgrading the OS is not supported". 4.3b3 appears to be 8F5166b and the 4.3 GM is 8F190. Ideas?

Same problem as everybody else. Using iOS 4.3 beta 3, didn't upgrade to GM, after the official release of iOS 4.3 the download of GM from website is gone, so I am staying at beta 3. The device is not working and ask me to plug back to iTunes. iTunes said the software is expired and ask me to update it. But when I press the update button, iTunes said my current version (4.3) is up to date. I guess my story is the same as everybody else, right?

I guess I could either:
(1) wait for Apple to fix the version release on iTunes and force it to detect the version difference between 4.3 official release and 4.3 beta release 3, or
(2) wait for Apple to release 4.3.1, so obviously by then iTunes would detect the need to upgrade.
(3) any other method? @Stewd, how did you do it? via xcode to fix the version?

@ynot23 and superpuppy, No, I have no idea what to do about this. It seems like we are kind of screwed at this point. Of course contacting Apple will do no good. I’m on vacation right now and the nearest Apple store is more than an hour away! Until I do that I have no phone! I’m just getting angrier. At least I know now that obtaining the GM seed won’t do me any good. Should I call Apple tonight, or just make the inconvenient drive out there tomorrow?

On a side note, this really makes me realize how dependent I am on this device.

Ok I have had this happen to me twice now once with 2.1 and now again with 4.3, last time I called Dev center support and was told that once the public release is published then it is taken off the dev website (stupid to me but it's apple for ya) anyway long story short they gave me a secure website to go to to download the public release and I had to do a Option+install button in itunes, then direct the install to the correct ipsw file. unfortunately I didn't bookmark the web address I was given by dev. center support, so I am in the same boat again. long and short of it is, if you have the public release .ipsw file go to itunes and when you hit the upgrade button press option at the same time and select the correct ipsw file. If not find out where to download the public release of 4.3 and let me know where you got it!!
