PNG file logo problems

My roommate created a logo for me to use but when I go to upload the png file into motion it doesn't come out the way it is supposed to. It should have a transparent background. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tired opening the png in photoshop or preview? does the alpha channel work in either of these apps?

if it works in these, then motion isnt seeing the alpha channel properly. Have a look in the media tab, select your image and then look at the inspector you can tell motion what to expect of the alpha channel there.

and or resave it out of preview as a png and that can fix motions problems sometimes
