Can't scan from brand-new HP PSC 1600 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier

Just installed this new all-in-one, and the printer and copier work perfectly. But when I try to scan, it won't do anything. Error message says to configure a "scan destination." But the menu to do so, on the desktop, won't open at all. Just stalls and stalls. Everything else seems to work fine, so no connection problems. Anybody know how to shake this menu loose?

First welcome to the discussions.
You may have to do a couple of things.
If everything else works good, you might locate the folder for your all in one and open it and check to make sure that the drivers for the scanner have been activated or Installed.
There is a good chance that they are in the folder and have never been double clicked to Install.
2nd Go Hp's site and make sure you have the latest update for this all in one and down load them to your desktop and drag them into the HP folder and double click them to install them... Tell us how it works out. Don

I just installed a brand new HP PSC 1510 All in one. And just like you I have no problem printing or copying but it has been imposible to scan. Everytime I try it appears a message sayng that the scanner is busy or not connected. Also when the HP setup utility launches it can't find anything connected to the USB port and it says "NO DEVICE FOUND" even with the fact that the system profiler do recognizes the printer and that I have no problem using the printer setup utility from MAC OSX.

I had this same problem before with an HP scanner and I thought it was the scanner and I returned it but after seeing whats happening now it appears that it wasn't the scanner .

Can some one tell us what to do to solve this.

I just installed a PSC 1610 at my aunts house.

I downloaded the ALL-IN-ONE SW package (the 94MB one) and it
is working fine.

The only trouble we have is that from the HP Scan application,
the Image Dropper does not show up if you select JPEG to iPhoto.

The workaround for us is that she selects Jpeg to HP Photosmart
and then exports from there.

I copied HP Scan to the dock to make things easier for her.
It DOES not show up in Image Capture as you mentioned,
we have to use HP Scan.

This is an added step that will make things harder for her.
I am calling HP tomorrow to see if they have a fix.

(she is running 10.3.9 and HP All-in-one 7.2.2)

Hope that helps a little.

I've been using the HP psc 1210v for about a year now, and I've always been able to print, but scanning (which I do very infrequently) has always been a problem. Typically, to use the scanner, I have to remove the printer and re-install with the latest drivers from HP's (currently 7.7.2).

So, after doing this again, I was able to scan a couple of images by using the "HP Device Manager". I just double-click on "Scan Picture", which opens the "HP Scan" application, and I can choose from there how to scan; either opening in another Application or Save to File.

I'm using 10.4.6, but I know I originally scanned some images using this printer in 10.3.9. Hopefully this will continue to work!

I've always had to do the same thing for my PSC 1210v on my PowerBook running 10.4.6 as well.
