Language input switching shortcut doesn't work

Hi! I always use command-space to switch between English and Chinese (Cangjie) input (having disabled this shortcut for Spotlight), but all of a sudden it stops working. I know the command key works and the space bar works, but when I press command-space it does nothing. I have to click on the little language flag to switch language. I also tried restarting the mini.

There is also something weird about the Chinese inputting now but I'll ask that in another post.

Thanks!

hello everyone.

I've had your problems for ages and didn't know what to do. but I did something strange and had my problem solved. hope it will help you.

1. open System Preferences and select the “keyboard” option:

2. Select the “ Shortcuts…” button on the top.

3. click on "the input sources" on the left.

4. You can see that by default the options “Select the previous input source” and “Select next source in input menu” are not enabled. we usually have the first option off and second option on.

so click on the check box to enable first one too.

set a different shortcut for these options. restart your computer. hope your problem disappears.

***** if the problem exists so set the "cmd+space" shortcut for both of them! you will see a yellow mark that indicates "conflict". but don't pay attention. this conflict will solve your problem.....!!!!!

Thanks Tom.

I had the same problem here after upgrading to Sierra, that sometimes I had to press cmd+space many times to switch imput methods.

Just like Tom mentioned, this happened because cmd+space is also used by Siri, which brought the conflict.

For those who got here by searching Google like me, if you were in 10.12 Sierra, please try changing Siri's keyboard short to 'off'.

Hi,

Though I do not know exactly what the problem is, I've figured out a way to switch from one input source to another.

Seems like my MacBook switches input after pressing SHIFT key. So after command+space (the default shortcut), I made a habit of pressing shift once, and it's all good.

It's frustrating how Apple has not been addressing this problem. But hope this helps.

I've been having a similar problem, but a little more elaborate.
It started with my Finder switching on its own from US (my default) keyboard input to Hebrew. I would just switch back using the shortcut (command+space bar), a shortcut I have been using for years without problems. Now the shortcut is giving me problems, and sometimes doesn't work, as steveappleotp describes.
While in Safari, the shortcut failed to work. I checked my System Preferences for language input and nothing had changed. When I used the mouse to open the language input menu, 3 of the 6 languages were grayed out. But this doesn't happen consistently. All of a sudden everything is okay and I don't know how to recreate the problem.

Thought I would post this here as it's recent and related, but maybe I should start another thread.
Thanks.

Hey,

i have the same problem. at some point of time the secondary language becomes grayed out and switching the language does not work anymore. restart helps, but then the issue comes back.

Apple support recommends to try another user account, but thats a work laptop with tons of certificates / software installed.

Any idea on how to troubleshoot?
