Keep a time machine volume mounted

I am attempting to copy a folder of a Time Machine backup to an external HD. Is there a way to keep the Time Capsule mounted and available while NOT doing a backup?

Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Hmmm. That's interesting.

Try this:

Click on an open area of the desktop so that the Finder menus appear at the top of the screen

Click Finder, then click Preferences

Under the General tab, look for a heading that reads "Show these items on the desktop"

Make sure there is a check mark next to "Connected Servers"

Restart your entire network

For a partitioned remote drive, it seems this suggestion keeps the partition in question mounted (the blue icon). The green icon still appears and disappears when Time Machine starts and finishes its backup. I am trying to use BackupLoupe and it needs this green drive icon persisted, which appears to be a more direct view into the Sparse Bundle.
