Can't print from mac book pro to Ricoh Aficio MP C4500

Hello, today i started working in a new office, that uses a Ricoh Aficio MP C4500 printer and everyone in the office uses windows computers. I have a Mac Book Pro 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, on it, I am running Mac OSX 10.6.6.

When I have tried to print several different file types such as .pdf, .doc, .txt, etc. the printer prints out usually 20 pages that are all coded or blank and nothing similar to what i printed out. I'm guessing this is due to the printer not understanding the language of the data i send to it.I know that i am successfully connecting to the right printer.

I've visited several webpages that discuss how to fix the issue but none of them have worked.

I have tried downloading the mac osx 10.5 drivers from the Ricoh website(they didnt have 10.6) that didn't work and when i printed i still got all blank/coded pages.

Next I went I tried typing the the printer IP address to my browser url... that didn't help.

Next I went to the apple website and downloaded all of their mac osx 10.6 ricoh aficio drivers and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.

next i went and downloaded the "ghost script" "footmatic" and "pxlmono" and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.

all of the other webpages gave no other advice. Also, when printing each time i tried all of the different protocols, that didnt make a difference.

if you can advise, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

We have three Savin/Ricoh MFP printers in our facility.

The simplest approach is to use the Generic PCL printer driver built into the Mac OS X system.

Determine the IP address for your printer.

On your Mac

Select Printer & Scanners

Click "+" to add printer

Choose the IP option

Key in the IP Address

For the Protocol: Choose HP JetDirect Socket

Queue: Remains Blank

Change the Name to a suitable name

Under use: Choose Generic PCL Printer.

Click Add.

Choose Duplexer if it is an option.

The Post Script is an option available for purchase on the Ricoh/Saving equipment. Not all equipment includes PS. I am surprised that the Mac Driver, however, is not available as a PCL driver.

If anyone is using MP 4503 without a PS card, try https://github.com/GreensboroDaySchool/MP-C4503-macOS-pxlcolor this one. I port it from pxlcolor-Ricoh, but more importantly it works.

Thank you for your reply.

My issue is the user code for this printer, too. In the Generic PLC driver, I seem can NOT find a field to fillin the user code. Do you have the same issue? How do you fix this?

This work for me (also for infotec mc 2800) - sorry for my language!

before, whit driver i can print only blanck pages with random font

first instal from here all the 3 software

after, when add print, (i have a network printer) select IP and HP JET Direct Soket (to resolve the printer pause problem)

and select the PXL driver

Based on your results it would suggest that this model does not support Postscript. Checking the Ricoh web site there is mention of Postscript being optional. So if the machine does not have Postscript, then none of the Mac OS X drivers from Ricoh will work - they will have been written for Postscript.

So with PCL5c and PCL6 being supported by default I would expect the pxlmono to work. But with this giving a similar result then I wonder if there is something else causing the incorrect output. As a test you could try selecting Generic PCL Laser Printer in the Print Using menu. This will only print in b&w but at least it will give an idea if something else could be fault.

It sounds like the printer does not have the optional PostScript module installed.

The drivers that are available from the Ricoh web site or are available from Apple only work when the PostScript module is installed.

After you downloaded and installed the Ghostscript, Foomatic-RIP, and pxlmono drivers, did you delete your existing Ricoh print queues and create new print queues? Did you choose the driver that had pxlcolor in the title?

If the pxlmono/pxlcolor drivers do not work properly for you, you will need to have the IT person tell you what printer languages the printer can use. Alternatively, you can print a configuration page from the printer keypad that will print a sheet telling you what languages it can use.

We use to have the Ricoh MP C4500, in our studio which is all mac. All our iMacs and Macbooks use to work fine with the MP C4500, you need to download the latest drivers from the Ricoh site which is here http://www.ricoh.com.au/download-drivers

I figured out why it wouldn't work for me, hopefully it helps someone else in this boat.

We had 2 of these printers, one had the PS module, other didn't. Company finally sprang(?) for the module, but Mac users still couldn't print. I found that in the User Tools/Printer Features/PS menu/Data format there was an option that was set for Binary on the working printer, but to TBCP on the other. Changed it to Binary, and presto, she started working! Yipee, only took about an hour to track that down.

Actually i've just discovered you can print without the PS card!

By downloading and installing the 3 files, pxlmono 1.9, footmatic-RIP & Ghostscript you can print in colour, select paper trays and use the duplex......

I assume it somehow converts the PS version to PCL before sending to the printer - it does print quite slowly with large PDFs but much better than before and saved ££££ on the PS card.

I spent a long time trying to find a solution so hope this helps others in the same situation!

I'm dealing with the same issue, no PS on our Ricoh. Did you have to do anything beside install those 3 pieces of software? I have done that and still printing code and lots of blank pages.

So here's the process:

From the Linux Foundation site install (in this order):

1. Ghostscript

2. Foomatic

3. PXL MONO

Once installed:

1. Go to the add printer setup

2. Select the IP Tab & type in printers address

3. In the "use" drop down select "Ricoh Aficio MP C4000 PXL"

This has been working perfectly for the past 8 months (duplex printing, multiple paper tray selection etc) but as is now common with Apple OS X upgrades, the latest Yosemite version has buggered it up!

Hope that helps for people who haven't yet upgraded their OS X, and I will update the post with more info once I've figured out how to get Yosemite to play nice.
