Clock Menu Bar and Spinning Wheel

When I move the cursor to the date and clock area of the menu bar, I get the spinning ball. I have tried to repair permissions as well as trash the preference files for menuclock and restart. Nothing fixes the problem. I am also missing a few icons that normally appear. Please help...

David--

Those items are put on the screen by a program called "SystemUIServer". Do a search for "systemuiserver". You should find two files, one called "com.apple.systemuiserver.plist" and one with a very similar name, but some letters and numbers before ".plist" at the end. Move both of them to your desktop and restart the computer. You'll need to reset some of your preferences.

If you don't get the spinning beachball any more over the clock, then just throw away the two files you put on the desktop.
