iPad 2 WiFi + 3G Verizon Cellular Data Issue

When I try to connect to the cellular data it just says iPad or Searching in the top of the screen. It did work last night. If I do a hard reset I can get it to work. Switching Airplane mode on and off to reset the modem does NOT work. Anyone have any ideas?

Help!! When I try connecting to the internet with Verizon 3G I either get a the message box stating that I do not have data left in my plan and do I want to update my plan now or later or I get "Could not activate cellular data network You are not subscribed to a cellular data service"

When I check under Settings - Cellular Data and I go through the login procedure, it shows (sometimes) that I've used 0MB and have 1000MB and have x number of days left on my account, other times.

So I was successful in signing up for a plan or at least it looks like I was but I'm unable to actually use it.

Any suggestions?

My best suggest for your problem, is to really visit a Verizon store, with your iPad. I don't think making a call to their tech gets you the result as you would get by visiting the store direct. I feel your pain since I have had to deal with these problems. But since they assigned the new number to my iPad, it has working like a charm.

Soooooo.... finally went back in to the Verizon store to the rep who sold me our first one and was very knowledgable but had not been aware of a fix for the roaming issue. I told him their tech support suggested wiping the iPad then cancelling the account and restart it to reassign everything.

Instead my Verizon store rep did this (after I synced/backed up iPad to be safe) instead of restoring again:

1) Verizon canceled my pay-as-you-go account (not my wireless account!) and assigned data number/PRL.

2) Went into Settings, General, About and copied MEID#.

2) On iPad went into Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings and pressed OK.

3) Restarted a new account (for me they just tied it to my wireless account but you can use pay-as-you-go) which reassigned a new data number and new PRL and reprovisioned it to associate with my iPad's MEID and.....

Voila!!! Now it says VERIZON 3G instead of ROAMING. FINALLY!!

I finally got both Verizon and Apple to agree this was the only way to resovle this problem. NONE of the iOS updates or even iOS 5 coming soon would have EVER fixed this problem since it was tied to the data number and PRL specifically.

Macbeth423 definitely got it right by suggesting going into the Verizon store to fix this. It took all of 15 minutes (because they were busy) in the store while before I wasted several hours on several calls and several restores for absolutely nothing!

Hopefully this will help others.

I had the same problem as everyone has noted in this post, from day one with my iPad 2. No one could help and after many hours wasted on the phone with Support and even going to the Verizon store, I found the following online (after hiurs of research) and it worked. I'm just sorry people are still having this problem and Verizon/Apple hasn't been more forthcoming with this fix:

Download latest iTunes on your PC, back up your IPad, factory reset on your iPad, set up your cellular data plan on iPad, transfer your back up back to your iPad. Done!

After I did this I had issues with my wireless picking up instantly like it had prior to this. I had to turn on/off Airplane mode and play around with the wireless to get it to pick up. After researching this as well, I found this was another common problem. Somehow it resolved itself within a week or so with no official fix.

Good Luck!

I am at a loss on this. I have been fighting with Verizon for months trying to get the 3G to work. Had it working for once but Verizon signed me up for the wrong type of account after spending over a total of 7 hours on the phone. I tried to reactivate the service today under the correct “Pre-Paid” account type using the Cellular Account settings and I have been on the phone with Verizon again for 3 hours. The end result is I might be able to get it to work if I drive 30 miles down the road even though I am in a Verizon area. The IPAD1 we bought a couple years ago works perfectly with ATT no matter where we are, so I guess we have to sell our IPAD2 64GB Verizon 3G for as much as we can so we can purchase the IPAD2 AT&T model. Please be careful when buying the IPAD2 Verizon Model…IPAD2 is an awesome product but Verizon has totally dropped the ball on this one.😟

Oct 18th and I just got my iPad 2 in the mail two days ago. I decided to spend the extra money on 3G through Verizon when I bought it and now I'm thinking I may as well have just gotten the wifi only version. All mine says is "Your iPad cannot be Activated" and a number to call. So I called and the guy went through steps of clearing stuff out, turning stuff on and off, but try as we might this stupid thing will not let me activate on Verizon. I was just going to get the data plan for when I'm out and about, but I guess that is not going to happen. He told me to wait a couple days and try again. So I'm going to, and if it doesn't work I'm contacting Apple to get my money back. This is stupid that this device is priced this much and there are all these problems getting it connected to 3g.

Believe me I understand your frustration. I finally got a hold of a tech that said I cannot activate if I do not have a solid Verizon 3G connection. We live on the edge of coverage so the IPAD2 goes back and forth between “Extended 3G” to “Verizon 3G”. So I looked at the Verizon coverage map and drove 15 miles down the road. Once the “Verizon 3G” showed without flipping back and forth to “Extended 3G” the IPAD2 activated no problem. Apple did offer to exchange the IPAD2 but only for the Verizon version, so we are sticking with it. At least now we know it works. And by the way the prepaid cellular plan, which we control in the IPAD2 settings, is working in both “Extended 3G” and “Verizon 3G”.

Hope this helps, it took me 7 hours on the phone with many techs just to figure this out. Take care.

I wish it was that easy for me. I live in an area where Verizon 3G is pretty good. My brother has an iPhone and loves it. I'm not flipping back and forth at all...it just says Verizon 3G up in the left hand corner and I get 4 1/2 bars in my apartment. I obviously connect to Verizon because the logo comes up after it tells to me to wait a few seconds (it's clearly contacting Verizon because on data usage I see some cell data went out and in). I contacted Verizon again on the pre-paid side and was informed that the pre-paid activation from the iPad itself is not working right now due to the IOS 5 update. If I knew this, I would have waited to update to IOS 5. They said they could activate my iPad over the phone, but not with the pre-paid department. I'd have to talk to another rep in sales to get setup on a plan. So they transferred me over to them and I spoke to a guy who acted as though he just didn't care if he sold me a data plan or not. He informed me that he could in fact activate my iPad, but there would be a $35 activation fee and the lowest plan was $30 a month for only 2gig of data, and the 1gig $20 a month plan was not available except on the pre-paid plan, and since that wasn't working I couldn't get it. So $65 + taxes and fees for one month of data and only 2gigs? I call that extortion, and it's absurd that I was not informed of this BEFORE making my purchase. Everything I read said I could get a pre-paid plan for $20 for 1gig and no activation fee, but now that I spent $600 on this device I find out it's all just B.S.
