How to turn 5555555555 into (555) 555-5555?

I'm new to Apple and just started using Numbers, I cannot program a cell to recognize a 10 digit number sequence and put it into a phone number type form. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Macbook Pro 13", Mac OS X (10.6.6)

You can do that with a Custom Format in the Cells Inspector.

Select the column with the phone numbers, choose Custom in the list of formats. Then choose and adjust the data types, add text, etc. in the Custom Format dialog.

How would it be if I meet you half way? Download the Numbers User Guide from the Help menu and take a look at page 98, "Using Your Own Formats for Displaying Values in Table Cells"

Thanks for the response Jerry, but is there any chance you could be a little more specific about what kind of actions I need to take inside the custom format dialog.
