What do you mean there is no legal way to transfer your purchases?

Of course there is. This is a basic feature. You can transfer itunes purchases to and from as many devices as you like. You should always transfer any purchases made on the ipod to your computer ASAP and included them in your regular backup of your computer.

File>Transfer Purchases

just backup to make sure seeing as though you WONT lose your stuff.
they say that to make you backup which you should.
after backup update.nothing happens so chill.

There's no problem here. It says this every time you update software on your iPod.

All you have to do is right click on your iPod's name in the left-hand bar, select 'Transfer Purchases', then when that is finished, select 'Backup' from the same place, and wait for that to finish.

Update your iPod, and when it is finished, it might ask you to select a Backup to restore it from, so just pick the one that you just made, evidenced by the date.

Don't interrupt it, and after that's all done, your iPod should be good to go, with all your data intact!


**If, for any reason, something happens during the restoration process after you have updated it, simply pick 'Restore From Backup' from that same iPod dropdown, and it will fix it.

like the poster after me said just up and transfer.
but DON'T interfer or it might not fin succsesfully is so you have to re-install.
