Syncing photos from iPad to iMac

I have tried several times to sync my photos from iPad to my computer and I get to a point when the import just stops and it is stuck on the picture and it doesn't finish syncing. Every time I tried to sync, it seems that it creates a duplicate of the photos on my computer that were transfered. Very frustrating. I'm not able to sync all my photos from my iPad.
Any ideas how I could do this?

After updating my iPad to 4.3 it seems that I have some issues with my photos. Is there a way I can sort my photos to my own events by date? The iPad did this before I updated to 4.3 but since then it is a mess and the event sorting doesn't make any sense.
As well, I'm able to delete event but the picture stays in the photo folder. How can I delete photos saved on the iPad?

What types of photos are you working with? Synced photos or Imported?
You can import into iPhoto or Aperture and sort there then sync it over to the iPad via iTunes. You can't delete synced photos from the device, you can only uncheck them in iTunes which removes them from the device, or just delete from iPhoto or Aperture (or a Folder) and then re-sync which will delete them off the iPad.
