Text on top of Pics or Pics behind Text

Does anyone know how I can have my picture behind my Text in Pages 09. I know the generic way is to print the picture and reinsert the paper back into the printer and let the text print on top of it. This would suck. I have a picture that I have Faded which covers the whole page. I want to Type on top of this picture. This will have a nice affect. While reading the info on the page you can slightly see on the invitation what the event is about. Please help me figure out how to get the cursor on top of the pic so as to add text on top of it.

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.6), Pages 09

I assume that you have your picture positioned where you want it. It would be best to have it assigned "Floating" status (Wrap Inspector) so it stays put. Then Insert > Text Box. Also should be a Floating object. Size and position the box and type away. If you want your photo to be behind the Text Layer of the WP document, select it and Arrange > Send Objects to Background.

You can run into problems if you try to layer text on a background image if you are working in a document tht was converted from Microsoft Word. If you create new text in Pages, it layers fine with graphics using the layering controls, but if you try to send objects "behind" text that originally came from a Microsoft Word, document, none of the layering controls will work. The solution is just to create new text in Pages, which not only layers properly, but apparently even integrates itself properly with the flow of old Word text. I wasted a good 20 minutes before I figured this out.

Select the image by command clicking on it:

+Menu > Arrange > Send to Back+

Create a textbox from the Toolbar at the top of your document window, with the text in it and position it over the image.

You can fade the text if you wish using:

+Inspector > Graphic > Opacity+

Download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu and familiarise yourself with how Pages works. This is not dissimilar from almost any other program
