Let me ask it this way, is there an other alternative that is reliable for spellchecking (hopefully for few languages), as well as able to edit text based documents.

Most importantly, I want those text based documents look the exact same on my iPad fit into the screen. This without jumping lines or sections or turning numbers or foreign languages into, something that is way too much enigma. I just need it the same way as they looked on my Mac / Netbook and the ability to edit text and style of doc!

I got my iPad to do some serious stuff, but for some reason havent got there yet even with such basic requirements...

The solution is for APPLE to fix the broken software.

The issue here is that we have a documented feature that isn't working. The way it should work is

Check spelling:

  1. Tap User uploaded file in the toolbar, and then tap Settings.
  2. Slide Check Spelling to ON.

Misspelled words in your document are underlined in red. In many cases, Pages can suggest an alternative spelling. To learn more, see “Look up a word,” below.

Look up a word:

  1. Double-tap the word you want to look up.
  2. Tap More, and then do one of the following:

Tap Definition to learn the meaning of the word.

Tap Replace to see suggested spellings, and then tap the spelling you want to use.

On my iPad 2 (same it seems as everyone who posted on this) the Definition works but the Spelling doesn't

COME ON APPLE - Step up to the mark, admit you have a fault and fix it !! In any case stop advertising Pages for the iPad as "...the most powerful word processor ever made for a mobile device." The way it works right now the word processor on my old Compaq iPaq was much more poweful.....

Can someone, please tell me how do you process all your documents that you have on your Mac / Windows on your iPad? I mean do you get into doing serious work with your iPad on the road at all!

I know many people who get it for their work in law / finance, business but most just use it as a leisure device. Coz, you cant even process / correct / add anything in an optimal way. Also, the same documents on iPad just looks too different compared to how you can see it on a Mac. Is this only me, or are you guys also experiencing this?

I am now really wondering, are you all guys using your iPad for fun only and not for serious stuff!

The inability to add fonts and keyboards or download random apps from the internet makes the iPad unsuitable for the kinds of things I personally would consider "serious stuff". The closed nature and limited capabilities of iOS and its apps mean that for a great many people's needs it cannot replace a laptop/desktop (and isn't intended to).

I'd go even further. I have Pages documents that I created on my Mac using the standard Pages templates. They do not display properly on the iPad and can not be modified to do so. This issue was confirmed via telephone by two Apple senior advisors and also by Mr. Jobs personally via email. Mr. Jobs did add that "We are working on it."
