iPad Apps vs. iPhone Apps

I have been an iPhone user for almost 2 years and have numerous apps installed on the phone. I just ordered an iPad2. I know some of the apps on my phone are iPhone only and I assume that they will not transfer over to the iPad when I syn it to iTunes but what about the universal apps? Will all of them automatically sync to the iPad?

There are some universal apps that I have on my phone that I do not want to be on the iPad? Is there a way to designate what apps sync to the phone and which to the iPad?
