Can I pair my iPhone 4 to my iPad 2

I was trying to pair both devices but they don't seem to recognize each other anymore. They did at first then all of a sudden the iPhone couldn't see the iPad. It just says searching. I may have clicked on forget this device on my iPhone but I don't remember if I did that or not. If I did is there any way to reset that so it will see he device again? Also I don't know what pair the two devices will actually do. Is there any cool features associated with pair iPhone and iPad via Bluetooth. Sorry if this is a repeat question. Thanks in advance for the help!

You can quit trying, pairing an iPhone and iPad by bluetooth is not supported.

Hi there - it is in the "Settings" tool right on the first "page" under the Wi-Fi option "Personal Hotspot". Go in, turn it on, set a password (the security is WPA2 PSK) and voila, you have a personal hotspot that your iPad (or any Wi-Fi device pretty much) can use. To use via Bluetooth just select for that option when you turn it on, pair up via the on screen instructions and you're good to go.

I have tethering and tried every suggestion here to no avail - I wrote this on another page and I'm reposting it here:

I think it's absolutely terrible that I can't pair my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I want to sync financial records when I'm on the road. This is, to use the Yiddish, a "shonda". It's rediculous and indefensible. Whoever made that decision or wrote those specs, you should be ashamed of yourself. And...just in case this is all a big mistake, a "bug" yet to be fixed, then please fix it so I can take back what I said and feel good about Apple again.

After resetting the network settings as suggested by wjosten (thank you!) my iPhone and iPad started communicating again. You have to turn on personal hotspot on the iPhone but the iPad might not show up as a device. However, I clicked on the iPhone in the iPad device list and a connect request box popped up on both. Voila, tethered! I am now off to try reconnecting to my Sony Bluetooth car radio.

Hi Jeff

I was struggling for weeks and really annoyed.

My iPhone 4 and iPad 2 (WiFi only) used to be paired and I used the Personal Hotspot via BlueTooth to access internet on my iPad when away from home.

When I upgraded both to iOS 5, nothing would recognise my iPhone's Personal Hotspot.

I've just done what "wjosten" suggested up above: Reset the Network Settings of the iPhone.

Did that, enabled the personal hotspot again, went on my iPad and it could finally see my iPhone again.

Paired the devices and they're both now working like clockwork again :-)

Try it out - it should work fine.

Thanks wjosten.

I have an iPhone 4S and iPad 2, both have the latest software upgrades. I have tried reseting the network settings on both the devises. I still can't pair the two. I get the initial message that asks to pair the devices, this shows up on both devices, with the identical pairing codes. When I choose "pair" on both devices, a second box pops up on the iPad 2. This box has a different code. I have tried choosing "pair" and "cancel," but neither choice works.

Any additional options would be appreciated.

I don't know if this would be any help I guess I'm also asking more of a question than giving advice but I seem to have the same problem. I have had iphone4 for about a year with all updates and I recently bought an ipad2. My friend in the UK recommended that I don't get the 3G ipad as I can connect ipad and iphone thru personal hotspot. Great I thought. After buying the ipad2 I looked for this option on my iphone but to no avail, after doing some research I discovered that not all networks offer the personal hotspot option. I called my network (softbank in Japan where I live) and after explaining what I wanted she put me on hold for a while and then told me they don't offer it so that was that.

Anyway, I've tried to just bluetooth the 2 devices together but they just keep searching and won't recognise each other. As has been said, iphone will only pair with headsets etc...

I gotta be honest I think this is a bit of bad work by apple that the devices won't talk to each other in this way. Does anybody have any advice on how to connect them or do I have to wait another 8 months until I move back to the UK where networks do offer the personal hotspot on their networks?
