Associate iPad backup with new computer?

I bought a new laptop (macbook) and for a variety of reasons decided not to use migration assistant and start from scratch. I successfully imported my iTunes library and authorized without any trouble. However I'm having trouble using the iPad with the new computer.

It wouldn't let me sync without erasing and starting fresh. I had copied over my two most recent backups and tried to restore the ipad to one of those after it had formated but it says the iPad is already associated with another computer and my only option is to start fresh. Is there any way to load these backups onto the iPad or do I have to bite the bullet and do it all manually?

Hi,

Did you actually authorize the new MacBook? If not..

With the iPad connected to the MBook, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

Then try syncing from a backup.

You can sync an iPad to multiple computers if you want. Help at this link. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1202

Note.. syncing to multiple computers requires that you manage iTunes music manually.
