Chinese Handwriting Crashes on iOS 4.3

After I updated to iOS 4.3, everytime I change from Chinese Handwriting to English or any other input, the application that is open will crash. When I do it on the spotlight search, springboard crashes.

I have tried a full restore and it does not seem to help.

Is this a bug?

Ummm..this is driving me crazy too.

I JUST did a fresh install of 4.3.3 and restored fom a backup. I have NEVER had problems with Chinese input. The last firmware I was on was 4.2.1. I also do not believe this is only affecting Chinese handwriting input. I have been switching mainly between English/Chinese Pinyin input all day and it has been crashing A LOT. I rarely use the handwriting mode, but I somehow accidently switched into it, and this is when my iPad became completely stuck.

Now, my iPad is completely stuck in Chinese handwriting mode. Whenever I open an input box (including springboard) my iPad crashes briefly and turns back on. It remains stuck in Chinese handwriting mode.

I have removed this input method from my international keyboards and it STILL showing up. If I try to switch by either holding the keyboard button or pushing the keyboard button for the next input, it crashes.

This is a HUGE bug considering the amount of people using Chinese input on the iPad. I hope this gets sorted out, but I doubt it will. We're several years into the life of this device (and I believe it just recently began sales in China) and we have to deal with this. Can't wait to update my device again and deal with syncing/iTunes problems!

I have the exact same problem ever since upgrading from 4.0 to 4.3.3 on my iPhone 3GS. If I try to switch out of Chinese Traditional Handwriting back to English, the open application will close. I have to fully restart my phone and then if I get lucky I can switch out of Chinese hand writing. Otherwise I have to remove the keyboard completely.

I can't believe that this bug hasn't been fixed after three months. This is unacceptable as there are MASSES of people using chinese handwriting and something so fundamental should be fixed ASAP.

I still can't figure out what the point of this forum is. Are we just complaining to each other?

Not once have I seen anyone from Apple respond to any of the threads I've posted it in. It seems to be completely full of threads with a chain of posts saying: "I have problem X." "I also have problem X." "Can somebody help?" "I have the same problem!"

It's nice to get updates through my personal email notifying me when someone else is complaining about the EXACT same problem with no additional solutions. =) Is this a feature to notify you that what you're wanting to be fixed still isn't fixed?

The first time I got one of those I thought someone from Apply had actually responded with a solution. Ha.

Same problem with 4.2.1 on an Iphone 3G. This is an absolute disgrace, I see lots of frustrated users posting here, but no official replies. I think we all should have learned a valuable lesson here or several:

  1. This company has not researched or fully tested their updates
  2. Their support personnel are either too apathetic or inept to solve what amounts to a huge flaw and do not appear to have the basic courtesy to reply here
  3. We mistakenly purchased a product which attempts to restrict what it was designed for (communication) - no flash, carrier locks (in the initial press releases for the 1st generation Iphone Steve Jobs promised that they would not be carrier locked) and numerous restrictions on app developers.
  4. In future vote with your wallet, purchase a HTC, Blackberry or any product that allows less restricted communication and which is supported by staff who actually care about solving the problems encountered by their clients.

I will certainly never purchase another Apple product again.

These are user-to-user technical assistance forums, not a formal channel for Apple to provide direct help. That is done via other means, such as the retail stores and AppleCare.

The right place to complain directly to Apple in writing about problems or to ask for new features is

(They read your postings there but do not respond).

I have been experiencing frequent crashes when using Chinese Pinyin input since upgraded to iOS5. It happens mostly at message and e-mail app. I had this problem on my 3GS, however, it still happens on my iPhone 4. I had all the software (computer and iPhone) up to date, but it never helps. iOS5 team, please look into this problem!!!!!! it's very frustrating.

Guess my comment got removed for some reason without explanation?

Upgraded to 5.1.1 and the Chinese input has gotten worse. It got so bad that anytime I would "click" a text box, the app would close. Basically making my iPad 1 useless. So I had to format and reinstall. I'm very familiar with that process though, being a Windows user 😉

Now Mac is just as bad with the iOS devices.

Come on, 3 years now and there are still major bugs with "international keyboards." Apple is aware that people write in languages besides English, right? I guess that's obvious if they're included the option, but make it work if you're gonna put it in there.
