Try downloading the update separately, and then installing it from iTunes.

You don't' say which iPhone you have, so:

For iPhone 4:

It's the same file.

If you're unable to download the file at all, then the problem is in your network setup or your router or your firewall or your antivirus

Connect the phone; open iTunes and hold the Shift key while you click the Update button. A dialog will open that will allow you to navigate to your downloaded file

I´ve been trying to update both my iPhone and my iPad since the updates were available with no success (same error). This error, by the way, haunts me every time an update is available from Apple. This direct download seems to be the solution as iTunes downloads restarts from scratch in every attempt 😟 Is there a web page where these links are regularly available? I am using the link nick101 posted for the iPhone but I am also interested in updating my iPad. Tks in advance.

Its very easy. Turn off Windows Firewall and Antivitus and start iphone's update

COMPLETELY WRONG.

To use these files, open iTunes and hold the "Shift" key (or on Macs, the "Alt/Option" key) and then click on either Update or Restore. A file browser window will open up, and then just browse to your downloaded firmware.

I use Windows 7 64-bit, Windows XP 32-bit and Mac OSX.6.6. Why?

i have the exact same problem with mine also. I had a new iphone but after a while i had a problem with it, the button to lock the phone wasnt working. so i broght it to the apple store and they gave me a "NEW" one, wich is not, cuzz i know they r just giving u the fixed ones. So i got that one, and when i tried to sync it with mi pc it just doesnt let me update and the same message appears. The thing is that i already checked my firewall settings and it was OFF, so it seems that firewall its not actually the problem. Maybe i'll just bring it back to the store until i get a good one.

Not necessarily true, actually...

Also, check on your hosts file. Google it.

1. Have you switched off anti-virus too? That's also important

2. Have you followed my suggestion in this thread to download the update and apply it manually?
