CanoScan N650U

I have the Canon Scanner N650U was working fine but just stopped, I haven't done any updates recently apart from installing Photoshop CS3 but I copied over the driver.

I've tried all the VueScan, SANE and CanonPI CS-U 3.8X but nothing is working.

Basically what is happening is I go to the PhotoShop Import menu select the CanonPI one the scanner comes to life but almost immediately come up with a warning the scanner is not connected. The scanner keeps scanning until the bar reaches the end of the scanner bed and make noise before you have to pull the USB plug to stop it.

The annoying thing is it still work when I tested it on a PC running WinXP, so it must be a driver issue. Maybe I have too many scanner programs installed and they are getting confused? I really like this scanner have had it a number of years and there is nothing wrong with it apart from not playing well with Leopard anymore.

Photoshop has its own built-in TWAIN facility. You may need to recover the backup from before your Photoshop install, and stick to using the older Photoshop until you find another scanner you can use. It may be Photoshop which disabled your scanner's compatibility.

The other option is to try using Image Capture's preferences to use the scanner.

Unfortunately the backup from CS2 is gone as I installed CS3 over a month ago, I've been using a network Brother scanner/printer in the mean time but this has fewer options than the Canon.

And I no longer have access to a copy of CS2.

I just find it frustrating I can install it on WinXP from the original CD but can no longer do that with OS X. If I had the money I'd go out and get a new Canon scanner but why spend money when I have a perfectly good scanner and just need the right OS X drivers.

BTW it was work with CS3 at one point, I copied across the 'CanonPI CS-U 3.8X' plugin into the CS3 folder. which is the confusing bit. I didn't do any other changes and it just stopped working on OS X.
