Simple Automatic Slideshow.

Hi all.

I've been looking for a way to do something I think should be really straightforward but doesn't seem to be. Slideshow may be the wrong term.

I want to have a set of images that cycle through on a loop. I want it to load and start automatically when the page loads. I don't want controls to stop or start it. I don't want to have all the constituent images displayed on the same page. I don't want music and I don't need any fancy transition effects, though something simple and smooth like a gentle fade would be nice.

It can't be that hard surely?

Here's an example of a fast loading, looping embedded slideshow (not mine):

...and probably done like this:

iPhoto > select photos > File > Export... > QuickTime tab ...set width and height, etc.

Then iWeb > Media button > Movies tab ...drag in your movie created above by iPhoto.

Then iWeb > Inspector > QuickTime tab ...settings.

Note: The above generates a QT slideshow of small file size and thus appears quickly in a web browser.

Thanks for all the replies. I did find a variety of ways to do this when googling but most involved inserting scripts and calling functions, or at least setting up CSS. I have no idea how to do any of this at the best of times but trying to work out how to do it in an iWeb HTML snippet was simply beyond what I could be bothered to explore.

Many thanks again!

Doing it this way, will the user have to have the QT plugin?

I believe they will. But, from a comment back in 2005: +"Whatever the stats are, one thing is for sure, QuickTime usage will grow faster than the others, because of iTunes, most digital cameras and now HP, Compaq and Sony computers ship with QT installed."+ ( Source)

If you're not so attached to iWeb, free web-based Weebly offers integrated slideshows which don't require a plugin:
