Welcome to Apple Discussions

First you have to go to the Videos app on your Home Screen if you have videos currently on your iPad. If you have no videos, you must go to the iTunes app and tap 'Videos' at the black bar at the bottom.

It is there you can buy and rent movies and view them on your iPad, computer (through iTunes), or Apple TV.

Now thats a good question every Movie that you purchase from the Apps store can be viewed by opening iTunes and clicking on the Library/Movies 'Top Left' I will download one to my iPad and let you know how that works. Ant..

Edit: After you run the Sync process which transfers the Movie to the iPad on the iPad you can view a play the movie in the Apple application called 'Videos' which comes together with the Device.

What is probably not clear to many is that you can download the movie directly to the iPad and Sync it with your iTunes Library or download it directly to your iTunes library and Sync it to your iPad

Excellent question how you approach the issue is to resolve what will be the video/movie source and how it is streamed to the iPad.

You can download the movie to your iTunes Library install on the iPad a WiFi program called Air Video which is available from the Apps Store and this will allow you to stream media via a WiFi enabled LAN 'Local Area Network' including Music, Movies, Podcasts for viewing on the iPad. You need the latest version of the iPad iOS4.3 as well as iTunes 10.2.1.1 to be downloaded and installed. In addition you also need to download the Server software to the Desktop computer where the iTunes library resides. Make sure that you get the latest Beta version of the AirVideo Server software 2.4.5-Beta5

In addition in Australia you can access over the internet our National Broadcaster the 'ABC' and their Video/Movie Streaming Service called iView. To avail yourself of that media requires a program of the same name to be downloaded from the Apps Store and installed on the iPad. To view media streamed over the Internet for best result you need a high speed broadband connection like ADSL/2 that runs at a minimum of 1.1 Mbps = 1026 Kbps or better.

With either program be it AirVideo and/or iView if you have an AppleTV HDMI connected to a compatible LCD TV allows you to stream using the latest Apple technology called Airplay not only the Audio 'Music' but now the Video media to that device for listening or viewing in HD on a TV so the iPad kinda works like a remote streaming device.

What is nice about the AppleTV 'a separate Device' is that not only can you stream iView and iTunes media using AirVideo and have it projected in HD on the TV but AppleTV also allows you to access your iTunes library directly over you home WiFi network without the need for the AirVideo program.

I guess by now you are probably sorry you asked. Does it all work well in my environment without fault is it exciting well yes because on this occasion Apple have nailed it. Good Luck Ant...

You cannot purchase movies from Netflix, but you can pay for the subscription and watch every movie available on Netflix through the app.

You can buy the movies for around 10-30 dollars (depending on high quality or standard quality) with the window that comes up when you tap 'Preview'.

Standard Quality is $3.99 for rentals while High Quality is $4.99, there are buttons regarind the two options on the window that comes up when you tap Preivew.

Yes that is correct you can purchase the Movie at the advertised price. I think that in the USA you can also purchase movies from Netflix. In the case of Apple you can register up to 5 devices for any one iTunes account. I'm not 100% sure but I think what that means is that you could have the Movie available to view in iTunes on the Desktop as well as Sync/Downloading it to the iPad so you get the best of both worlds. And of course Air Video allows you to view it from any remote location where you have 3G or WiFi connectivity provided that iTunes and Air Video running on the Desktop with an always on broadband Internet connection. Nothing was asked about streaming. Just load the video onto the iPad thru iTunes.

Don't need AirVideo.
iTunes will do it directly with Home Sharing.

It's a new feature with iOS 4.3 that allows streaming from your computer to your iPad.

For this and other issues, I suggest that you look at the user's manual and the tutorial parts of the website - including the link to the guided tours that I posted earlier in this thread. They will help you get started on many of the questions you have about using your iPad.
