Welcome to Apple Discussions

First you have to go to the Videos app on your Home Screen if you have videos currently on your iPad. If you have no videos, you must go to the iTunes app and tap 'Videos' at the black bar at the bottom.

It is there you can buy and rent movies and view them on your iPad, computer (through iTunes), or Apple TV.

Excellent question how you approach the issue is to resolve what will be the video/movie source and how it is streamed to the iPad.

You can download the movie to your iTunes Library install on the iPad a WiFi program called Air Video which is available from the Apps Store and this will allow you to stream media via a WiFi enabled LAN 'Local Area Network' including Music, Movies, Podcasts for viewing on the iPad. You need the latest version of the iPad iOS4.3 as well as iTunes 10.2.1.1 to be downloaded and installed. In addition you also need to download the Server software to the Desktop computer where the iTunes library resides. Make sure that you get the latest Beta version of the AirVideo Server software 2.4.5-Beta5

In addition in Australia you can access over the internet our National Broadcaster the 'ABC' and their Video/Movie Streaming Service called iView. To avail yourself of that media requires a program of the same name to be downloaded from the Apps Store and installed on the iPad. To view media streamed over the Internet for best result you need a high speed broadband connection like ADSL/2 that runs at a minimum of 1.1 Mbps = 1026 Kbps or better.

With either program be it AirVideo and/or iView if you have an AppleTV HDMI connected to a compatible LCD TV allows you to stream using the latest Apple technology called Airplay not only the Audio 'Music' but now the Video media to that device for listening or viewing in HD on a TV so the iPad kinda works like a remote streaming device.

What is nice about the AppleTV 'a separate Device' is that not only can you stream iView and iTunes media using AirVideo and have it projected in HD on the TV but AppleTV also allows you to access your iTunes library directly over you home WiFi network without the need for the AirVideo program.

I guess by now you are probably sorry you asked. Does it all work well in my environment without fault is it exciting well yes because on this occasion Apple have nailed it. Good Luck Ant...

Yes that is correct you can purchase the Movie at the advertised price. I think that in the USA you can also purchase movies from Netflix. In the case of Apple you can register up to 5 devices for any one iTunes account. I'm not 100% sure but I think what that means is that you could have the Movie available to view in iTunes on the Desktop as well as Sync/Downloading it to the iPad so you get the best of both worlds. And of course Air Video allows you to view it from any remote location where you have 3G or WiFi connectivity provided that iTunes and Air Video running on the Desktop with an always on broadband Internet connection. Ant..
