Hotspot does not always broadcast SSID!!

I have noticed this issue on both my ipad2 (Wifi) and my 15" 2011 MBP. If I immediately go under the settings and check to see if the Hotspot feature is turned on (which it already was), then the hospot SSID will show up. But if I haven't been to the Hotspot screen in the last couple of minutes, and I am not connected, it will not show up.

I have to go back under the settings, click on the hotspot prefernces, and then it will show up again.

It does not always seem to be broadcasting the ID and I don't know why??

15" MBP, Mac OS X (10.6.6), I got all of 'em

I don't think that answer is entirely correct.

From: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756

"Note: If you leave the Personal Hotspot screen or put iPhone to sleep, iPhone only broadcasts the Wi-Fi network for an additional 90 seconds. If no devices join the Wi-Fi network during that time, iPhone 4 stops broadcasting your Wi-Fi network. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot."

So, if I understand correctly, if you leave your iphone on the the Settings --> Personal Hotspot screen, than it shouldn't stop broadcasting.

that is normal, wifi hotspot turns off after 90 seconds if not used. hope it helped

No idea why Apple designed it this way. Very un-user friendly! Such a hassle! The timeout should be a feature the user can toggle or select time. Wish there was a way around it!

So you have to go to the settings page to turn it back on each time you need to use it then?
