Brother Control Center installs & disappears

/Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities/ControlCenter

I just downloaded the current Brother software, v. 2.6, and there is no "Control Center." The only applications it installs are:

/Library/Image Capture/Devices/Brother Scanner.app
/Library/Printers/Brother/P-touch Utilities/P-touch Status Monitor.app
/Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities/BrStatusMonitor.app

I have it in the Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities folder. I'm using the DCP-8080DN.

Same problem. I recently installed the Brother update from Software Update for my MFC-8680. Now Control Center is completely gone, and I can't find it anywhere in the machine. It's gone from the previous location. And I can't find it on the Brother site. They seem to have replaced it with a Java app, but that doesn't seem to support network scanning.

Without the Control Center, I can't scan over the network to my machine. Any ideas anyone?

Aha. The software update deleted the Control Center. But from the Brother website:

The Scanner Driver (TWAIN Driver) contains the Brother ControlCenter. Please install the Scanner Driver (TWAIN Driver).

So I downloaded the latest 10.6 TWAIN driver and Control Center was reinstalled. I wonder why it was deleted by the Software Update process?

I was having the same problem, in fact Spotlight wouldn't even find it, but I finally found it:

Hard disk (the picture of your computer)/Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities/ControlCenter/ControlCenter.app

Take the "controlcenter.app" and drag it to your dock.

Yeah, that's where it's always been. But for some reason it was removed from that location when I did the software update of the brother drivers.

But at least by re-downloading the TWAIN driver and installing it, the ControlCenter app was reinstalled.

By the way, ControlCenter is a funky little piece of software. It works, but it's full of buggy and un-maclike behavior. Still, it's better than the days when you couldn't even get certain printers to work with macs...

Any idea where the Twain driver for the printer is kept? I can't find it.

The Control Center utility is terrible. Obviously Brother didn't bother to write a native Macintosh application; it looks like they simply ported a Windows utility and stuck it in there.

Now, if I could get my Brother scanner to show up in Image Capture (or even in the Print & Fax menu), I'd be happy.
