New Shiira browser version released...
For the user that is looking for something different...
I like Safari, but hate the way it hogs memory and CPU cycles if you leave it open for extended periods of time. I have been using Camino and like it, but longed for some more Safari features.
Shiira is an open-source browser written in Cocoa. I had looked at in the past, but not felt comfortable with as it seemed a little rough and generally not too impressive. However, it looked promising, so I kept coming back to it to check development and now they have released a new version - 1.2 - that rivals Safari in look and feel, as well as usefulness. They have added RSS support and a host of graphical features like Tab Expose which is just as it sounds.
You can have an Aqua or Metal theme to make it look more Safari-like, and it seems to have a smaller footprint. I have not had any of the memory hogging that Safari seems to suffer from.
I like it so far and just wanted to pass it along.
