I have been trying for over a week to download the iOS 4.3 update for my iPhone 4 and keep getting the same error -3256 saying the network connection was lost. The firewall on my Mac is off and my iTunes is the latest version but it keeps giving me this error.

Can anyone help me?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware, etc.) running on your computer.
Connect the phone to a USB port on your computer, not an external hub or keyboard port.

+"Error 3000-3999: (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3164, 3194, and so on) Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again."+

I had the same problem, however, today I decided to try 'hardwiring' my laptop directly to my internet router. Previously I was trying to do this via the wireless network in my home. NO success. BUT today with the hardwire, I was able to FINALLY download the iOS version 4.3 update in about 35 minutes!!

It is possible something within the School's network. Have you tried any other connections? Many restaurants and coffee shops have free wifi available.
